Shirley May

I am a freelance programmer working with small businesses to develop bespoke business applications to help them improve management of their operations and achieve efficiency savings. For the office:

• a stock management program for small, independent retailers
• an application to keep track of time spent on projects leading to invoice production
• an application to record incoming jobs, assign an engineer, etc., through to completion and invoice
• a program to record maintenance work and costs for building projects
• a program to calculate royalties and generate royalty statements
• a help-line database to record calls from clients
• a marketing admin program for keeping track of calls to customers, etc

For the web:

• a search engine and pick 'n' mix program for a karaoke company
• a search engine for a library music company
• e-commerce programming to order and buy goods online
• a series of online questionnaires for a natural health company
• a website optimisation service (if your website doesn't work, why not? - I can find out and put it right)

I use Microsoft technologies - VB, VB Script, ASP, Access, SQL Server. I do my website programming 'by hand', using Dreamweaver as an editor.

I started my working life as a secretary but changed to community work, then TEFL teaching in Spain and now to programming. I did a philosophy degree and later an MSc in Information Systems. I have been running my own software business since 1997. My aim is to deliver robust and easy to use applications within budget and on time! Some of my customers have been with me for 5+ years.
