There are no jobs in Brighton' - Get on the Vine
Vine - inspiration, motivation and friendship for female entrepreneurs
We have all heard the old adage - there are no jobs in Brighton - but women could be encouraged to take the initiative and go it alone with a new group launched to support female entrepreneurs.
Vine - a young and dynamic networking group has a funky website and all who join can add their details to the database and contact others already registered. It is hoped that this will enable new businesses to develop and prosper.
Lucy Lambton, Vine co-founder said: "Lack of company and contacts can often put people off self-employment or stop them in the early stages. We hope to create a community to foster confidence, encourage women to realise their dreams and give them another option to slogging it out nine to five in a job that does not have their heart."
The group - founded by three women in their twenties is set to provide an alternative to formal networking groups - which can be considered intimidating and expensive.
Vine, which is free to join will have their launch, Tuesday February 28th and will also hold regular pub meets with guest speakers and members will be encouraged to contact others, more firmly established in business for advice and support. The group also hopes to attract sponsorship and set up training days.
Julia Chanteray from The Joy of Business will be speaking on the opening night about how women do business differently to men and how they can use that to their advantage.
David Ripley of business support organisation Sussex Enterprise said, "At Sussex enterprise we understand the need for businesspeople to meet informally and share ideas and common goals. Women that are just starting out in business have very specific individual needs - therefore meeting likeminded businesswomen in a relaxed setting is invaluable to their confidence and growth of their business."
The group was set up by Vahsti Hale - self defence and martial arts instructor, Lucy Lambton - PR and Sarah Bird - 2D/3D computer animator , all self employed and living in Brighton.
The launch will be at the Robin Hood pub and will begin at 7.30pm.
