Introducing Chapel Studios - a nice place to work in Brighton & Hove

*Not One But Two Special Offers for the Wired Sussex / Brighton Digital Media Community!*

  • Free Taster Day - Grab your kit and come grab a desk for the entire day (during normal working hours or when last paying occupant leaves), free of charge (normally £25 for hot desking)
  • Flat Rate Licence Fee - Until the 1st April, we will be offering all new members of the community a flat monthly licence fee of £250 (absolutely fully inclusive - see 'What you get' on our website). This is the current monthly rate when a new community member commits to an annual licence, so it represents the best possible deal on serviced desk-space within our light and airy open-plan studio.

Chapel Studios, home to Desk Space Hove and the first commercial property acquisition (we're in the process of completing on our second office building, the first is Hova House, number 1 Hova Villas; Chapel Studios, by contrast is so far the only open plan, fully inclusive shared studio environment) by the independent, family-owned and managed Office Space Sussex Group has a long creative history - before we took it on it was home to the renowned international photographer Zul.

So, we offer both fully inclusive, high specification desk space licences on an easy-in, easy-out 1 months' notice basis and fully-serviced and again fully inclusive office suites ranging from 2 person offices to an 8 person workspace at Hova Villas.

Chapel Studios is the second Co-working facility in Brighton, following the excellent work of James at The Werks. Members of the Chapel Studios community have dropped in to the Werks for their open co-working sessions (which we offer at any time, simply contact Ralf in advance) and report that ours is a very different workspace, atmosphere-wise. Chapel Studios is obviously a smaller facility, but this pays dividends in encouraging what we're seeing and describe as incidental collaboration. There is absolutely no requirement to collaborate and this has never been actively encouraged. However, over the past year since Desk Space Hove opened, every member of our community has collaborated with other members of the community. Two of our independent business owners have even formed a partnership to pool their skills on larger projects. The social side of the Chapel Studios community is very active also, particularly from Friday lunchtime till Monday morning, very much part of a social / communal work hard play hard ethos by our high-flying community members...Oh and we even have our own facebook group(!)

Chapel Studios is founded on strong ethical principles and a belief that it's simply wrong that half the City's economically active population leave the City everyday to earn a living (according to the City council). Our ideal would be a financially self-sustaining community skills pool to which clients and would-be employers approach for resources.

HAL Coffee Machine at Chapel Studios Brighton Co-working is "cafe-like community/collaboration space for developers, writers and independents." In addition to the high specification furniture and infrastructure that we put in place and are continuously developing at Chapel Studios, we simply *had* to have a top of the range industrial coffee machine that will eradicate the need to make runs to the local coffee shop, handy for everyone's productivity, a great social space (we have a water cooler area too which is also a nice place to hang out :)

Chapel Studios Brighton community Stretch & relaxation class By contrast with the less healthy socials at one of the numerous great local bars, the Chapel Studios community recently had a taster "stretch and relaxation" taster session delivered by Mark at Integration Training. I've blogged it here and it looks like it's going to be a regular event.

Mark also did one-on-one sessions to improve our working ergonomics for greater productivity and less downtime.

Chapel Studios Brighton - some members choose to arrive by skateboard, this is Brighton after all You're free to travel to Chapel Studios by any means you like. This week, the skateboard with the rather fancy orange wheels has proven popular, followed closely by bikes, public transport and car. There is a bookable parking space for visiting clients.

The physical layout and interior design of the Studio is an ongoing, organic process subject to communal decision making by all licensees. Personalisation of your workspace is encouraged, it's yours after all!

A recent policy decision has been made permitting well-trained, quiet and clean canines in the Studio, so we're looking forward to having an office dog, assuming no one has allergies in which case the plan will be re-thought :)

We hope you'll come and visit (and maybe even stick around) soon, you're very welcome.
