Register for the i5 4.0 beta programme today
Dataline Software's rapid web development tool extends its feature set with the forthcoming release of i5 version 4.0. This new enhanced version will launch in Q2/2013 and introduces a number of sophisticated new features. Prior to its full release, Dataline Software is inviting people to download and evaluate a beta version for free.About i5®
Dataline Software's i5 is a powerful and sophisticated web developer's toolkit, designed to deal with the increasingly complex demands of the Internet environment. Exclusively developed by Dataline, i5 incorporates pioneering tools for web enabling databases - that make it possible to take live information from multiple SQL databases and make it readily available via browsers and mobile devices - to employees, suppliers and customers.
Some of the new features available in version 4.0 include …An enhanced .NET Programming Interface for developing web applications
The real value of i5 as a development environment lies in the way that it allows the programmer to extend the point-and-click capabilities of i5 Studio with bespoke business logic code. The i5 .NET Programming Interface provides the developer with a complete set of classes for processing data, generating pages dynamically and generally providing the control required to organize sophisticated web applications. Previously COM+ based, the new Programming Interface has been ported to native .NET CLR, to allow seamless integration with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, 2008 and 2010.Browser independent CSS rendering
There are many benefits to using CSS to control your web site; it is easier to maintain, quicker to draw, and is search engine friendly. However, the standard support given by most web development tools to CSS is a simple one - build once, test everywhere. Currently, different web browsers treat CSS slightly differently, so when your web site is created you need to test for cross-browser incompatibilities. The presentation layer in i5 eliminates the need for this time consuming testing by ensuring that any CSS it generates compensates for the inconsistencies in a particular brand (or version) of browser. Support for Internet Explorer 10 has also been added in this version.Internationalization
When building international B2B or B2C portal applications it can be very important to provide multi-lingual user interfaces. To make this possible, i5 4.0 is now equipped with a powerful internationalization feature which can dynamically substitute placeholders in i5 pages with translated text looked up from external XML resource files. Translations can be specified for each and every item including; labels, text values, images, HTML templates, date, time and number formats.Plus more ...
In addition to this, more than 50 enhancements have been added into this release to improve ease-of-use, performance and resilience. The list of enhancements includes:- Support for drag-and-drop page layout in Internet Explorer 10 and Google Chrome.
- Books sorted alphanumerically to assist version control merging.
- Ability to target .NET 3.5 Framework for i5 business logic.
- A new plug-in component for SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Automatic mitigation against DoS attacks.
- Works with Windows Server 2012.
- A new installer to streamline the setup process.
You can register for the i5 4.0 beta programme at http://www.dataline.co.uk/cgi/dataline.htm?page=i5BetaRegistration

Dataline launches new iPhone App for healthcare professionals
23 January 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEDataline launches new iPhone App for healthcare professionals.
Dataline Software is proud to announce version 2.0 of Snomobile, the first SNOMED browser for handheld devices. This innovative iPhone/iPad App is designed to aid healthcare professionals find and organise SNOMED and CTV3 codes - and provides a variety of techniques to search, sort and retrieve clinical terms. The new version released in January introduces support for the NHS UK extensions, plus enhancements to its search engine.
SNOMED Clinical Terms (CT) is the most comprehensive, multilingual clinical healthcare terminology in the world. It enables Electronic Healthcare Record software to record clinical information in a standard format that allows meaning-based retrieval - providing effective access to information for decision support and consistent reporting and analysis. This facilitates better communication, leading to improvements in the quality of care.
The SNOMED CT dataset contains over 300,000 unique concepts, all of which can be found using Snomobile in a matter of seconds. The application stores its own copy of the SNOMED dataset locally, which means that as well as providing super-fast performance, it does not require an Internet connection to operate.
In response to feedback from users, the search engine in Snomobile 2.0 has been enhanced to support prefix matching. This new search mode works in the same way as whole-word matching except that it returns words that begin with the text entered by the user. For example, "hear mur fun" will find "Functional Heart Murmur (finding)" in prefix matching mode.
As well as functional enhancements, the new release also incorporates the NHS UK extensions to the SNOMED dataset, bringing it in line with its sister product www.snoflake.co.uk - which has included these extensions for several months. Adrian Bleach, Managing Director of Dataline sees this improvement as a "must-have" for the application, saying "In order for Snomobile to be truly useful to the UK health sector, support for the UK Extensions was essential".
To find out more about Snomobile and its sister product Snoflake, visit http://www.snoflake.co.uk/site/snomobile. You can also contact Dataline Software on +44 (0)1273 324939 or email snomobile@dataline.co.uk.
