Who we are

I'm Derek King and I live in Seaford in the heart of the South Downs national park. I'm passionate about photography, walking, art, music and indie cinema.

I've been working as a programmer since 1987, initially on commercial accounts and stock control software for various companies in Sussex. In 2000 I retrained in interactive multimedia, to bring more visual creativity into my work. For the next 10 years I was employed working mainly on interactive learning resources for educational publishers, mostly in Flash and HTML/JavaScript.

Since 2010 I've been freelance, and now concentrate on advanced JavaScript projects.

What we do

I create applications for web or mobile and advanced interactivity using the latest HTML5 features. A stickler for good typography and semantic markup, I can create responsive layouts for all web platforms using CSS3. I'm familiar with collaborative workflows including GIT, and can work alone or in a team.

Who we do it for

I am available for short or long term contracts. I can get involved at any level, either as a one-man band, team leader or team member. I can also have input into strategy planning, deal with clients, and report back articulately to stakeholders. I am happy to work on a daily rate or, when appropriate, quote for a job. Below are examples of clients whose projects I've worked on:
