Design & filming EPK services for Film
Designing and directing for Feature Film
After successfully delivering titles for their short film “Fractured”, Johnny Kevorkian and Neil Murphy of Minds Eye films approached me to design the logo for their new production company “Lost Tribe Productions”.
During early discussions it became apparent that I could also help them out with the design and branding for their upcoming feature film “The Calling” (later renamed as “The Disappeared”).
A mutual respect and shared obsession for all things film related (and a passion that enables working on very low budgets) eventually led to me directing and producing the “Making of” documentary or “EPK” (Electronic Press Kit).
The benefits to the client is clear. As an appointed Lead Creative the director and producer have one contact to deal with throughout the busy period of production. One contact, multiple product. Once the trust is in place, I have a proven track record of managing and delivering multiple, large scale creative projects for my clients.
I designed the branding for the film and delivered sales brochures, posters, website and then directed and produced the EPK. I visited the set throughout the six week shoot (I had a lot of experience on shoots and in studios so knew how to be invisible when need be). Filming and photographing all the time, I was able to capture the entire production process with unlimited access. I was in rehearsals, on the shoot and in post production without ever treading on any toes. Onset politics are the true key to success on these endeavours and I have a lot of experience (as a freelancer and traveller) of entering various workplaces and getting on with everyone form the security guard on the gate to the lead actor onset. Goodwill gets you the best access.
Knowing what questions to ask the young actor in his first lead role, or the composer and cinematographer all come from a genuine interest in – and experience of – working with creative, talented people over the years. An obsessive ability to talk all aspects of cinema history also helps.
If you are genuinely interested in and respectful of people and passionate about storytelling then a compelling EPK is a relatively easy project to undertake. I hope to be able to help you with yours when the production starts moving. Please get in touch to see if I can help out.

Branding a top five IFA
After being given 24 hours to sketch up some concepts I beat a leading London agency to secure the rebranding of Thinc financial services and Destini Network.
I designed the new brand and delivered the launch at the annual conference. Working with the marketing team I delivered all branding, marketing materiel, internal and external communication documents. I also produced the conference video and provided filming services at the event.
I produced all printed materiel, from brochures, leaflets and designed the stage and events literature for the main brand and three sub brands.
After a successful 2 year relationship Thinc Destini was sold to Axa for a reported £120 million pounds.

“the client was very happy with his work and i can happily recommend james to anyone looking for artistic input for print, web or video.”
?I hired James to design the Directgov YouTube channel I helped to create for central Government.
The brief was to create an identity on the page that was inclusive to the Directgov demographic; as this is basically every age group from babies to pensioners, the balance had to be just right to not put too much emphasis on any one group or too little to another. James produced a number of versions and Directgov settled with the photographic portraits approach that can be seen on the site today.
James is great to work with; full of good ideas, fast to turn these into workable solutions and all at a reasonable price.
Because James is experienced with moving media as well as static design, he is also good at storyboard work and interactive elements.
The client was very happy with his work and I can happily recommend James to anyone looking for artistic input for print, web or video.?
