September 10-12 2003, Fabrica, Brighton - Networking Evening
The dSCAPE/03 networking evening introduced the Sussex new media industry to the wider local business community at Brightons Fabrica Gallery. The event formed part of a three-day showcase of Sussex-based design and new media talent, organised by Wired Sussex.
Both sides of the new media equation consultant and client presented their experiences of buying and selling new media services. Lars Hyland, of e-learning content developer Brightwave, provided the agency perspective, followed by Alex Langley of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. Alex has experience of procuring services from local new media companies and gave advice to those looking to do the same. He emphasised: "If you are a company based outside Sussex you should definitely consider a firm from that area. If you are in Sussex it is hard to see why you would look elsewhere."
An informal networking session followed, where the new media and business communities got to know each other better, discussed key issues and made valuable contacts for the future.
Rob Day, a director at Brighton-based new media company Liquid Light, commented: "Many of us are busy working with clients in London, Europe, and further afield so it's often easy to forget who is on your doorstep! We met some really interesting local companies, and may well get some business from it. Good result!"
dSCAPE/03 Networking Evening was sponsored by Business Link Sussex, Sussex Enterprise, Brighton Wine School, John Standing Outside Caterers and Sting.
