Wired Sussex
Wired Sussex event

September 10-12 2003, Fabrica, Brighton

BD4D – ‘By Designers For Designers’ – the name spoke for itself! The Friday night dSCAPE/03 event enabled local new media designers to present their work to their peers. The keynote presentation, on aspects of interactive design over time, was by Mickey Stretton of Random Media. Mickey also presented some impressive work done for the interactive website for Douglas Copeland’s latest novel.

A more than capacity crowd turned out to see ‘Three Minute Madness’ (3MM), where the cream of local design talent presented short showcases of work made specifically for the event. These included:

Sam Barrister Battlecake
John Davidson Blunt74.com
Dave Evans Postex
Karen McPherson Alldayeveryday
Matt Sewell Matt Sewell

After the presentations, Andy Mac of Skint records and Hamish Makill from Red Design took control of the turntables for the rest of the evening.

Ryan Carson and Ryan Shelton, who developed the BD4D concept, helped to coordinate the evening’s presentations, and declared afterwards that Brighton’s first BD4D “was a real success”.

Robert Day of new media consultancy Liquid Light also liked what he saw: “This was a fresh and innovative approach to showcasing the thriving Sussex new media industry. dSCAPE reinforced Brighton's deserved status as a leading new media hub and it was good to see key figures from London agencies taking a serious interest."

dSCAPE/03 BD4D event was sponsored by Macromedia, Sailor Jerry, Skint Records and Red Design.
