29th October 2004, Fabrica, BD4D Brighton 002

A capacity crowd turned out for the finale of dSCAPE/04, BD4D ('By Designers For Designers') - a celebration of digital media design and creativity.

The keynote presentation was delivered by Ju Row Farr of Blast Theory who are renowned internationally as one of the most adventurous artists' groups using interactive media. She talked about Blast Theory's latest project - Can You See Me Now? - and gave a historic overview of Blast Theory's formation and ethos.

'Three Minute Madness' (3MM), enabled local emerging creatives to present short showcases of work made specifically for the event. The 3MM participants; Scott Mcpherson from Amoeba, Tim Fleming and Jim Howells from Plastic Reality and Sheila Woodbridge from Quirst all gave dynamic and well received presentations. Both Scott and Shelia's BD4D presentations are avaliable to download from their websites.

After the showcases, Tom Joyce (aka DJ No Socks) and Clive Craske took control of the turntables whilst Future Platforms hosted a live picture messaging competition based around the 'am I hot or not' concept - offering a bottle of bubbly for the winners.

3MM participator Scott Mcpherson said afterwards that he had "..a great time and five seperate college lecturers ask me to come and do a talk to their students, and a talent scout from a local agency try and bribe me to go to them!"

While Sheila Woodbridge, who also took part in 3MM also added "I've already received 2 new projects (and lots of great leads), which I'm sure were due to the event!"

Meanwhile, Ryan Carson, one of founders of the BD4D concept who helped to coordinate the evening's presentations declared this, the second BD4D in Brighton, "a real success!"

The dSCAPE/04 BD4D event was sponsored by Action for Business Skills, Business Link, Loose Connections, Pure and Future Platforms. Drinks were supplied by Dark Star Brewery, Danes Ltd (suppliers of Tuaca) and Any Event Bars.
