African Animation Night
Date: Wednesday 8 November 2006
Time: 6.30-10.30pm
Venue: Fabrica, Brighton
In an age of Bob Geldof and the G8, this is a night allowed Africa to speak for itself. Tracing the lives and experiences of African people, these animations brought together traditional storytelling and a modern medium. The undeniably powerful shorts depicted personal and political tales as diverse in their visual style as they were in perspective.
Compelling, shocking and humorous in equal measure, this night dispelled myths and engaged the audience with a unique body of work produced by both established and emerging artists.
Curated by Paula Callus (Bournemouth University) and Tessa Lewin (Lighthouse), the event premiered work not previously screened outside its country of origin.
