African Animation Night
Powerful and affecting in equal measure, the African Animation night left all with plenty to think about. Depicting a view of Africa that challenged the western perspective, the night allowed African voices to be heard above the preoccupation with HIV and poverty. Showing the modern and frolicsome as well as politically charged side of the continent depicted African people as less far removed from our own experience. This is a part of the world at the mercy of its circumstance, not its peoples who share the same hopes and aspirations as the audience is was talking to. One audience member was clearly inspired by the night, ‘really brilliant, fantastic selection of material – I want more!’
