Web Designer - Junior to Mid-Weight - Brighton - Part-time

As DabApps continues to expand we are looking for a Junior to mid-weight Web Designer with excellent design skills and user focus.

Part-time/flexible at first, with the potential to go full time in future.

You’ll be working in close partnership with our Creative Director to support them with tasks such as:

  • Visuals for social media and branding, and website design.
  • Helping out on pre-sales design related tasks.
  • Wireframing, prototyping and designing web applications, with possible for mobile app design opportunities.
  • Workshopping with clients on design discovery - helping establish how things will look and feel through collaborative exercises and mood boards.
  • Providing design support to our developers and clients.

Experience and qualifications

You should have a design degree or equivalent experience.

You will have built up experience through a number of client projects over 1 to 3 years and be looking for the next step in your career. Your portfolio of work should illustrate a self-confidence in both visual and interaction design, helping users achieve their goals and clients hit their objectives.

The role will be varied and you will need excellent problem solving, prioritisation and decision making skills. You’ll need a minimum of 1-3 years experience in design and good references.

Core skills

Below is a list of core skills and technologies we consider key. We are not expecting any candidate to have experience or knowledge in all of these areas. What we are looking for is the ability and desire to learn the areas you don't have, when and if required. If you only have some of the below, you should still apply!

  • Visual design & communication/brand development (Figma primarily, though if you’ve used any modern design tools, we can train you up).
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Mockups, wireframing and lo-fi prototyping.
  • HTML/CSS and basic JavaScript.
  • Responsive web design – an understanding of modern web apps.
  • Mobile design – an understanding of how modern cross-platform apps work.
  • Experience of working on client-facing projects and communicating confidently directly with clients.
  • An understanding of a user-centred design process (design, research, user testing, validation).
  • Bonus skills: Any interest in data visualisation, web and mobile accessibility.

Personal specification

We are growing the design team and want you to grow with us.

You will need to be able to work effectively in a team-based agile environment, collaborating with other designers, developers, and customers, as well as playing a part in the growth and direction of the company as a whole.

The role is remote for now, as we have transitioned to remote working during the pandemic, but you would be expected to visit our central Brighton office once lockdown lifts, so some proximity to the south coast would be ideal if possible.

What are we offering you?

  • A competitive salary based on your experience.
  • A chance to join a growing company with a great culture.
  • 25 days paid holiday – plus paid Bank Holidays (PA Pro Rata)
  • Flexible working hours – inside core office hours.
  • Encouragement and support to take part in Brighton's vibrant creative and digital communities.
  • Pension scheme (after qualifying period).
  • Regular training and conference opportunities – in-house and external.
  • A great working location in the heart of Brighton, + remote options.

For the foreseeable future, this will be a remote role due to the current ongoing situation, with the option of returning fully or partly to a Brighton office-based environment when it is safe to do so.
