Job Description:

This role is offered as a 0.8 fraction, (possibility to increase to full time with expanded course offer 18/19). September 2017 start.

We require a Lecturer to work within our Computing & IT department at our Eastbourne Campus. You should be a competent programmer who is either experienced with or is willing to learn Python to a good level to teach the fundamental principles of computing such as data structures and algorithms. You should also understand problem complexity, formal languages and a variety of programming paradigms including procedural, object-oriented and functional.

As an excellent communicator, you will be able to break down concepts and devise practical ways to secure a deep understanding with learners. Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, you should also have a teaching qualification (or be willing to work towards one) and ideally have experience in teaching A level courses although this is not essential. This role will allow you to inspire the next generation of computer scientists and tech entrepreneurs.

The main role of this position is to co-ordinate and teach the first and second year groups of our Computer Science course as well as the planning and implementation of a new Level 3 Apprenticeship for a Software Development Technician
This aspect of the role will involve classroom based delivery as well as workbased assessment.

Skills required will include:
• Creating software solutions, whether for web, mobile or desktop applications.
• Configuration management and version control.
• Basic analysis models such as use cases and process maps.
• Stages of the software development lifecycle.
• Business environment and business issues related to software development.
• User Interface development.
• Databases and data analysis.

You will be enthusiastic about learning and be able to stretch the most able students.

Computer Science and Software Development are exciting and fast moving areas and to work in them you should be prepared to investigate new technologies and integrate them into the curriculum.

From September 2018 we are looking to expand our offer to include Software & Games Development at Level 3 as well as HND Courses in either App or Games development. Ideally the successful candidate would be taking a lead role in developing this expanded offer.
