The City's Brightest Businesses Go Head to Head
BAHBA shortlist announced
The shortlist for the inaugural Brighton and Hove Business awards – the BAHBAS – has been announced and includes some of the biggest and best names produced by the City of Brighton and Hove.
Companies on the shortlist range from the smallest and newest to the largest and longest established – from Mistral Internet to the Royal Pavilion, Party in the Park, Brighton Festival, Gresham Blake and Brighton and Hove Albion – and many others.
The winners will be announced at a star-studded gala dinner at Brighton Racecourse on Wednesday 1 September. The evening will be compered by well-known local comedian, Terry Garoghan.
The BAHBAs have been designed to showcase the best of the City's businesses and recognise those companies, organisations and individuals that bring economic benefit to the City – putting Brighton and Hove on the map of UK plc.
Over 3000 nomination forms were circulated throughout the City via Juice FM, Brighton and Hove Life, Sussex Enterprise and Brighton and Hove City Council. Residents and businesses were invited to make their own nominations across a wide range of categories, from the Company offering the Best Service to Customers to the Event of the Year and the Ambassador for Brighton and Hove.
Those nominated were then invited to make a submission as to why they felt they should win and these were assessed by a panel of judges which included David Panter, BandH Council; Steve Stark, Juice FM; Kat Mclure, Mistral Internet; Jonny Reggae, Catskills Records; Verity Smart, Brighton and Hove Life and Emily Aitken, Wired Sussex. Caraline Brown, CEO of Midnight Communications, who held no voting rights, chaired the judging panel.
Commenting on the shortlist, Caraline said: 'The judges were delighted with the response to the Awards and were looking for those companies which demonstrated the vibrancy and uniqueness of our City – innovation, and leadership were considered more important than size or revenue.
'There are very few cities in the UK that are as energetic, vibrant, innovative and cosmopolitan and we believe our shortlist reflects this.
'Without business there would be no Brighton and Hove – no art, no culture, no excitement and no entertainment.
'This is what the BAHBAs is all about – recognising and celebrating those people, businesses and organisations which put Brighton and Hove on the economic map.
