Invitation to participate in Entrepreneurs for Tomorrow 2005

We would like to invite you to participate as a Business Mentor in our 'Entrepreneurs for Tomorrow' event which is being held at the University of Sussex, in association with the Specialist Schools Trust and the Sussex Education Business Alliance on 13th and 14th January 2005.

This event is designed to introduce Year 10 school students (14/15 years old) to entrepreneurship, and to act as an inspirational foundation for a competition for them to devise an innovative business plan.

On each day 15 students from each of 9 local schools will be attending between 9:00 am and 3:30pm. Over the two days 18 schools and 270 students will be introduced to the University and to Entrepreneurship.

It is our aim that each school has a business mentor to shadow them throughout the day and to work with them in the afternoon on ideas for business plans. At all times, the school students will be accompanied by their teacher and by a University Student Mentor. We are also hoping that after the launch, during the competition phase, the mentor will be able to visit their school to see how their business plan project is coming along.

You are welcome to attend on the day of your choice either the 13th or 14th, whichever is most convenient for you. We have schools from across East and West Sussex coming on each of those days. Once you had decided upon a day, we would then allocate a school to you.

We are holding a lunch and briefing from 12:30 - 2pm on 1st December 2004 at the Sussex Innovation Centre for all Business Mentors to provide an outline of the day. This also gives us a chance to thank you personally, and provides an opportunity for you to meet the other business and student mentors. If you would like to be a Mentor but are unable to attend this briefing we would very much like to speak with you personally to provide any further information or assistance.

In summary, the commitment would be.

  • Lunch and briefing on 1st December at 12:30 until 2pm (Please let us know if you are able to attend for catering numbers. Please could you also let us know any special dietary requirements).
  • One day at the University of Sussex, from 9 - 3:30pm, 13th or 14th January.
  • One or two brief follow-up visits to your allocated school.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can furnish you with any further information. Or visit our website: www.bhbcp.org.uk

I look forward to hearing from you, and can be contacted for questions or your reply on gerard.cronin@sussex.ac.uk or 01273 877692
