Want A Career In The Media Industry?

Thursday 26 May is National Skills Day for the audio visual industries, organised by Skillset, the Sector Skills Council, Broadcast and a range of industry companies and organisations. Companies across the media industries will be staging events and activities to promote skills and awareness of their importance. Many of these activities are aimed at existing staff but there are some opportunities for people hoping to pursue a media career. For details visit: www.skillset.org/nationalskillsday .

As part of National Skills Day Skillset are running a number of competitions for people trying to get a foot in the door of the media industries.

Work Experience at Sony Computer Entertainment’s Cambridge Studio

You could win 1 day’s work experience at Sony Computer Entertainment’s Cambridge Studio.

You’ll get to see how games are made; meet the people behind them including artists and programmers; and have the chance to play some of the latest blockbusters before anyone else! You’ll also get a PlayStation goody bag!

To enter visit: www.skillset.org/nationalskillsday and email Skillset a treatment of your ultimate computer game idea. Your treatment should be a brief outline of no more than 300 words. You may also include images if available. (Please note that this competition will not result in your idea being made into an actual game)

Job shadow at the Isle of Wight Music Festival

You could go behind the scenes of the Isle of Wight Music Festival to work with the Virgin Radio team and be involved in outside broadcasts, producing, transcribing and editing interviews, and putting together ideas. You will also have full access to Virgin's hospitality and entertainment throughout the day. The job shadowing will last for one day and is great experience for someone starting out their career.
