Today (19.03.2007) it was announced that Brighton based Mind Orchard, working with EMAP the largest publisher of magazines in the UK, have won Best Online Publishing Campaign with The Internet Advertising Awards run by the “The Web Marketing Association” for the re-development and modernization of ZOO magazine online. The Internet Advertising Competition has now been running for seven years and is now the premier competition of its type internationally recognized by its peers. Mind Orchards work is in good company as it sits amongst other highly decorated agencies with campaigns for brands such as Coco-Cola, Microsoft and Jaguar Cars.
Since the re-design it has produced incredible results for ZOO magazine and they speak for themselves.
The figures are incredible. In the past calendar year, aided by a re-launch to enable user-generated content and community functionality, unique users have risen from 219,000 per month to a staggering 562,000 – a 157% increase. And page impressions leapt by 139% from 3.1m to 7.4m. Traffic is currently increasing at 25% per month!
As a way of spreading the brand, specially-made videos of ZOO magazine photo shoots have been spread virally and have had an incredible response. One set of ZOO cover star Keeley had an amazing 3.75 million views, all with clear ZOO branding.
And for users genuinely engaging and contributing to the site, in the past three months 19,700 users have posted 9395 bits of content including 7890 photographs. And some keen users have even made special videos for ZOO and posted them!
ZOO is now the fastest-growing men’s lifestyle site.
The re-design breaks new ground for magazine websites, while still staying true to the brand’s values. It’s not a traditional push-model of second-rate magazine words-and-pictures but adds to the ZOO experience. It delivers immediacy, interactivity and video in ways print can’t and makes ZOO an essential part of the daily lives of young men.
It’s a true Web 2.0 site, uniting an ever-increasing community around what’s important to them. It allows users to interact and contribute. And if they just want to look, ZOO delivers sexy, funny and – most importantly – timely content.
Quote: Adam Duckworth: “Developing the new concept and web design with Mind Orchard was a real pleasure, their unique way of working made it feel like they were an extension to my own team.
