The Museum of Modern Art in New York has launched its new redesigned website, featuring a reconstructed design offering enhanced navigation and interactivity. It includes an extensive online collection programmed by Cogapp, using designs by For Office Use Only and MoMA’s in-house Digital Media team.Visitors to MoMA.org can access over 24,000 works from the museum’s collection from anywhere in the world and can now search this collection using an unprecedented choice of variables. The browse filter allows granular or refined searches across a number of different parameters. This provides a highly personalised search result which may be viewed in different formats, including a slideshow. Users can also take advantage of a reworked e-card system, allowing them to share the collection with friends and family.
We became involved in the new website's development in September last year, but our working relationship with MoMA dates back several years. We provided the technology for their previous online collection launched in 2005, and went on to develop MoMA.guide, an elegant and intuitive interactive program to guide visitors in their experience of the museum, which launched last year.
Gavin Mallory, Cogapp's manager for this project, said: "It's been rewarding to continue our work with MoMA, making exploring their online collection a more interactive, immersive experience for users. Working with their creative team is a real bonus and it's great to be involved with a museum on the cutting edge of design".
