Monthly Recruitment Round-up

With the 1st month of the new financial year already over and summer (hopefully) on its way we thought it would be good to look back over last month and what has been happening on the job front here in Sussex

In 2010 the Wired Sussex Jobs Board has seen a marked increase in the number of vacancies posted. Following up with the companies that are recruiting it is obvious that a large number of the roles posted are new hires and that there are definite green shots happening in the media sector in Sussex.

April of 2010 saw 57 new vacancies posted onto the jobs board which was an increase of 42% over April 2009. The % increase for the 1st 4 months of 2010 compared with the same 4 months of 2009 also came out at 42%. Now, if we compare Jan – Apr 2010 to the same 4 months of 2008 we see that we still have some road to travel before we recover completely as 2010 is down 37% on 2008

This was the spilt of the roles posted:

Programming/development: 28%
PR/Marketing: 17%
Account Services/Sales: 9%
Project/Production Management: 11%
QA/Testing: 7%
Content/Editorial: 4%
Administration: 7%
User Experience: 2%
Design/Animation: 15%

The bigger question is, is this growth sustainable? With the uncertainty in the economy, the probable change in government and the continued delays in clients signing of contracts manage to stifle the county’s growth? That is for far wiser people than me to discuss.
