April was good for the Wired Sussex website with over 15,000 visitors to the site during the month. This post looks at what those visitors got up to, how they found us and what they looked at.
Firstly, a few headline figures for the month:
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given our audience, most people viewed the site in Firefox with Safari pushing Internet Explorer into third place. Most of our visits came from people using Windows (60%) Macintosh coming second (37%). Interestingly the site received over 1,000 visits from iPhones during the month for the first time, and 10 from those of you who are lucky enough to own iPads.
Most of our visitors used the site to look for jobs with over 10,000 unique visitors viewing the jobs search page alone. The most popular jobs category was ‘Design & Creative’ with 3,500 viewers and the highest individual job advert was for a Freelance Graphic Designer which got over a thousand views during the month. The Member Directory continues to be a very popular area of the site with well over 2,000 unique visitors during April.
Top referring sites for the month were the normal mix of search engines, social media sites (twitter and facebook in particular) and some of our own websites such as Women in Media and Sussex Internship Programme. It’s also great to see a few hundred referrals from some of our Members’ sites, thanks for the links guys!
The main terms people use to find Wired Sussex in search engines were, as usual, our name (spelt in a variety of interesting ways), job search terms and terms relating to the services offered by our members; including terms like “web design brighton”.
We received over 17,000 visits via search engines during April by people using nearly 4,000 different keywords. Some of the more unusual ones used this month to find us were:

- Jobs Posted: 57 (see Nick’s excellent post for more info)
- Projects Posted: 25
- Workspace Advert Posted: 21
- New Members: 66

I’m sorry to say that I suspect most of these people probably left the site disappointed but if there’s anything we can do to improve the site (which doesn’t include adding a ‘scary bunny’!) then please get in touch. All feedback will help us create a better site that’s more useful for you.
