Wow thank to all for coming on Saturday to our charity fundraiser and Wired Sussex members DJ competition and social. I think I can safely say that everyone involved had a lot of fun! Here's an account of the night from one of our lovely sponsors, that not only took part in DJing, but also helped raise a chunk of money for charity too!
Digby is an SEO from No Pork Pies a digital agency in the heart of Brighton, but at night he also goes by the name DJ-igby, Wired for Sound DJ.
Last Saturday the core fibres of Brighton’s very soul were shaken with the “phat beats” and “banging tunes” being omitted from Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar late into the night (and early into the morning). The cause? Wired for Sound 2013.
The charity fund-raising Stick-it-On DJ competition returned for a second year to gather Brighton’s digital scene into a musical arena to battle it out over the decks to determine, once and for all (until next year), who truly is the “Champion of Choons”. DJs had to pick their top three floor fillers in a bid to generate as much foot stomping, arm waving and booty shaking as possible (also known as dancing).
All this in aid of three very worthy local charities:
Sussex Macmillan Cancer Support Centre who provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care
FareShare Brighton and Hove who tackle food waste by collecting quality surplus food from the food industry and distribute it to vulnerable people.
Grassroots Suicide Prevention who prevent suicides in Brighton & Hove, which has one of the highest suicide rates in England
With so much at stake the competition was understandably fierce and the good times at an all-time high. All the DJs (easily capable of filling out stadiums) were on top form, but there had to be a winner, and that was Node Design. They toppled the mighty Propellernet from their musical throne, creating a rivalry more dangerous than Blur & Oasis, Metallica & Megadeth, The Notorious B.I.G. and 2pac.
The night was a great success and jolly good fun. Wired Sussex would like to thank the generous sponsors Madgex, No Pork Pies for their sponsorship and support, which made a significant difference to the event, and to the charities. We’d also like to thank all the DJs for providing a great night of entertainment and the crowd for partying for such good causes!
Thanks again to everyone that supported the event and to the fabulous George Rutter for taking photos on the night which you can see here as well as on our own Facebook page. Congratulations ultimately go to Oli Ladenburg of Node Design for stealing Propellernet's reigning crown and winning the competition and prizes for 2013!
