The talent and skills gap. It’s a topic that’s been at the centre of conversation in the digital, media & tech sector for some time. On Monday 23 March, we are bringing together businesses, universities, colleges and other skills providers to explore what the key challenges are for our industry in this area, and discuss what we can do, together, to work towards addressing these.
What’s it all about?
The Digital Skills Summit aims to identify and work to address the skills gaps that are prominent within our sector. As well as looking at the relationships between skills providers and businesses, we will also be exploring continued learning opportunities within employment and best practice for up-skilling staff and encouraging learning.
Key areas that we’ll be looking at include:
- Where do the skills gaps lie most prominently within the sectors and why do they exist?
- What are the primary skills needs of recruiting digital, media & tech companies and what shortages are apparent?
- How are organisations trying to address these needs?
- How can businesses support educational establishments and skills providers, to minimise the talent and skills gaps?
- What strategies do businesses have in place to overcome these challenges?
- How effective are the many government funded schemes that exist to support businesses in finding and retaining staff?
This is set to be a really practical event and attendees will have lots of opportunity to both listen and get involved in the discussion. The lineup includes:
- Keynote speaker from the Creative Skillset
- Wired Sussex member companies sharing their best practice methods around strategies and culture
- Panel discussion with universities and other external organisations looking at how industry and skills providers can work better together
- Workshops where attendees get involved in active discussions on set topics in the skills set and staff development area – so there will be lots of actionable points to take away!
- Informal networking - topped off with a drink or two on us!
