February is the month of love! I've been asking local talent how they got & why they love their jobs, so they can inspire you. This is the second in a series of guest blogs from members.
Three members of the team from Rakuten Attribution in Brighton, share with us what makes them love their working day:
Sophie Aymonier, Executive Assistant
"Why do I love my job? This is a really easy question to answer, firstly because I work for a great, dynamic company that is at the forefront of new technology for the digital marketing industry. I’m Executive Assistant to the CTO for Rakuten Marketing and MD of Rakuten’s Attribution division. It’s an exciting role that challenges me and pushes me, it is so varied and no two days are the same.
Part of my job is juggling their busy calendars and dealing with several different time zones which I equate to a serious game of Tetris – now who doesn’t love that game…. The company looks after its staff too with weekly lunches, taking part in a lot of fun activities, such Paddle Around the Pier, and quarterly parties – these are all great for forging strong relationships between members of staff.”
Nick Taylor, Marketing Executive:
“I never wanted to attend to university, it just didn’t appeal. Fresh out of college, I took an apprenticeship with a local businesses, working and studying towards an online marketing NVQ. Knuckling down, I got there. Within my second year I was promoted from marketing assistant to manager, a big step, but I took in my stride and delivered. The next three years, I found myself working in-house and for agencies, specialising in search and social. I now work for Rakuten Attribution, a fantastic, Brighton-born now global business.
Marketing has an expansive landscape, there are so many different areas you can specialise in. My top tip for anyone considering a career in marketing would be to dip your toes into the different pools of specialties and see what feels good. It’s a great industry, full of talented, passionate professionals.”Working in marketing is brilliant. No two days are the same, a constant stream of varying work finds itself in our department. Design, content, technical…it all happens! As a career path, marketing is well worth considering. With so many different disciplines and opportunities, most find themselves either specialising in one area or being the ‘jack of all trades.’ You’ll find marketers tend to stay in same circles, everyone knows everyone. It’s a fantastic community full of talented, passionate professionals – I’m glad I found my way in!”
Carlie Hoare, Technical Solutions Manager
“Having always known that I wanted to work within the Marketing industry, I completed my Business Management with Marketing degree in 2008. Luckily I got a temp job in a small Marketing company in Brighton and things have just escalated from there. I love that Marketing can be creative & analytical at the same time and I get to work with a lot of like-minded people.
At Rakuten Marketing I’m a Technical Solutions Manager, working solely on one account. For me, typical work tasks range from handling support requests, building data reports, to project managing a new feature that our client would like to see in their Digital Marketing database. I love diversity, and in my role no two days are the same.
Rakuten Marketing offer constant opportunities to learn new skills, and the L&D department really take into consideration what training the employees are requesting.
The office is a very fun & sociable place to work. There are often company treats, including ice cream sundaes, cold beers for company meetings and a free weekly lunch from local Brighton eateries. Everyone is really friendly and approachable, including the senior members of staff, which certainly makes for a relaxed working environment!”
