Reaching and Growing Your Audience

On Thursday 7th July as part of our Breakfast Session event series, we invited Wired Sussex Member companies in to The FuseBox to talk about reaching and growing audiences for your business.

From content generation and the utilisation of different online channels and social media platforms, to SEO, PPC and email marketing, there are many methods and approaches to be considered within strategies around reaching and growing your audience.

At this event we heard from Jon Hibbitt, Technical SEO Analyst, SiteVisibility, Scott Colenutt, Product Manager, SiteVisibility & Komal Helyer, Head of Marketing, Pure360 who shared their background and expertise on the subject.

Here are some key points from the conversation as well as some useful tips and resources for reaching and growing your audience from Scott, Digital Marketing Strategist at SiteVisibility.

Discovery Phase and Measurement Planning

A couple of resources we’d recommend that tie in with our conversations about Measurement Planning and Discovery:

In short, document your intent and think document your strategy before jumping straight into tactical delivery.

AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) Project, Improving Mobile Page Speed and Mobile Updates

Everything you need to know about AMP pages can be found here. For those who don’t know a thing about what AMP is, just watch the introduction video on that URL.

Google launched a handy tool for small businesses last month that provides recommendations on how to improve your site speed and mobile friendliness.

YouTube Optimisation

YouTube actually has a great course within their “Creator Academy” section that walks you through the basics on how to optimise your videos for YouTube.

I’d also recommend their “Fan Finder” service. A lot of people don’t seem to know about this, but it’s basically free advertising.

Moz Keyword Explorer

In short, this is my favourite keyword tool and one I’d recommend everyone goes away and experiments with. It’s particularly useful for helping you prioritise which topics to target and gives you insights into how the search results are broken down (e.g. local listings, organic results, paid results, knowledge graph etc.)

It combines all the best bits from the other tools we discussed and lots more. Only problem is, the free “tests” are limited. If you’re heavily focused on SEO or content marketing, I’d suggest signing up for the free 30 day Moz Pro trial that will allow you to access all the features of this tool.

Angular JS/JavaScript Usage and SEO

Here’s the study from last year which looks at how Googlebot crawls JavaScript.

This is a more recent guide specifically relating to the use of Angular JS and SEO that was released last month by the digital agency Builtvisibile.

10x Content Concept

Here is a great Whiteboard Friday that covers the topic of “10x Content”:
