The darker weeks leading up to the beginning of the New Year are sometimes thought to be a bad time to advertise a vacancy.
However, our records show that immediately after Christmas there tends to be a surge of job seeker activity, resulting in some of the highest application figures of the year.
Many companies will decide not to advertise during this period. Too bad for them – you can slip in and nab the best talent while they are finishing their Christmas leftovers!
Every job posted during December this year will receive:
- A free upgrade to our Premium ad package when you buy a Standard ad. That's two weeks on the front page of the jobs board and a huge visibility boost 🚀 Plus 15 credits to use in the CV database (great for a bit of headhunting!)
- A further two weeks' advertising at no extra cost.
- The chance for your ads to be featured in our job seeker newsletter, which goes out to over 5,000 people.
- A New Year’s refresh, bumping your advert back up to the top of the site for a final big push!
Plus…
You'll get heightened visibility for your roles, as we will be promoting job adverts in a daily Christmas Advent Calendar across our social media channels ✨

Here are our top 5 reasons why you should advertise over the festive period:
1. Job seekers have more time to search
Over the festive break, people have more time to think about their careers, evaluate where they want to move to and search for new opportunities. December is actually one of the busiest months for our Jobs site in terms of views, with over 250,000 unique visitors!
2. It's a competitive market
It can be a challenging time to be a job seeker, and also for companies who are searching for talent. With higher application numbers for available positions, recruiters get access to a wider pool of high-calibre candidates.
3. Get a jump start on January
Studies have shown the first quarter (January to March) is a peak time for recruitment. However, with employers becoming more diligent with their hiring process, it’s now typical to factor 60 days between posting a job and making an offer.
So, the weeks leading up to Christmas is when you need to start thinking about how to attract candidates to click 'apply’ for those Q1 jobs.
4. Get ahead of the competition
Capitalise on other companies taking downtime by advertising your jobs now, so your company stands out from the crowd whilst others go quiet.
Setting Yourself Apart from the Competition
Showcase your employer brand with a built-in company profile
A great way to increase the popularity of your job adverts is to write an employer bio about your business and the benefits of working for your company.
You can add and edit your profile by clicking 'Company Profile' in your dashboard on the Wired Sussex Jobs site.
