Open Source Authoring Project Brings Elearning Industry Together on 2 July

City & Guilds and Kineo are bringing the elearning industry together at a unique event to discuss a new open source authoring project. The aim is to take their award winning elearning framework, Adapt, and collaboratively create an authoring tool that is owned and governed by the elearning community. All interested parties are invited to the free event to take part in the initial discussions on Tuesday, 2 July, 2pm-5pm at Goldsmiths’ Centre, London.

Adapt creates a single version of an elearning module which responds and adapts to screen size. The framework is designed with mobile in mind, so all functionality is available across platforms and can be optimised for each device. This means that one piece of elearning content can adapt effectively for any device, enabling more flexible learning which meets the need of the modern, global workplace. Adapt has already won the prestigious 2013 LearnX Impact Platinum Award for Best Learning Design Technology.

The free event is open to anyone interested in the development of elearning content across all sectors including corporate organisations, public sector, charities, universities and FE colleges. The agenda will include:

• A technical overview and demo of Adapt

• Roundtable discussions to capture your feedback and views

• Setting up an open source project including governance and licensing decisions

• Next steps and establishing steering group

Kirstie Donnelly, Director of Learning Technologies at City & Guilds comments, ‘This event is the first of its kind and I strongly encourage anyone who is interested in opening up the future of elearning to come along and get involved.’

Steve Rayson, MD of City & Guilds Kineo, adds, ‘We are hoping to work collaboratively across the elearning community and are looking forward to gathering input on what could be a hugely beneficial initiative for client organisations and providers alike. We are great believers in open source software and have a proven track record in this area with platforms such as Moodle and Totara.’

The event will take place between 2pm – 5pm at the Goldsmiths’ Centre, 42 Britton Street, London EC1M 5AD and all are welcome. To guarantee your free place at the event, contact Alexandra Warren via alexandra.warren@cityandguilds.com.
