Following a successful partnership in 2015, Brighton Digital Festival today announces EDF Energy has extended its sponsorship and will be the festival’s premier sponsor for 2016 and 2017.

The festival, which takes place across Brighton and Hove from 1 to 30 September, is one of Europe’s fastest growing and is the UK’s largest celebration of digital culture. Last year, the grassroots festival hosted nearly 200 events, attracting an audience of over 160,000 at events across the city.

EDF Energy recently set up Blue Lab, an innovation accelerator that promotes collaboration with entrepreneurs and start-ups, at its offices in Hove. Blue Lab’s aim is to make energy easy for consumers and businesses by harnessing the latest design and technologies and it is currently exploring opportunities within the connected home and energy services.

Other confirmed sponsors for 2016 include Vodafone UK, Brighton-based Wired Sussex, Brandwatch and Brilliant Noise.

Laurence Hill, Brighton Digital Festival manager said: “As the UK’s largest celebration of digital culture, Brighton Digital Festival is the perfect platform to collaborate with key digital partners and brands in the city.

“It’s also our first year as an independent Community Interest Company (CIC), so we are thrilled to confirm our greatest business partnerships yet. The support of EDF Energy, plus our other sponsors, will enable us to build a more sustainable future for the festival, whilst accelerating its overall growth and development opportunities.”

Jean-Benoît Ritz, Director of Innovation and Blue Lab at EDF Energy, said: “We purposefully chose to establish our innovation accelerator, Blue Lab, in Hove so we could be close to the growing network of digital businesses and professionals based here on the south coast. Being premier sponsor of Brighton Digital Festival provides a great opportunity for EDF Energy to extend its strong links with the city’s digital community and forge new ones.”

Brighton Digital Festival is supported by Arts Council England, Brighton & Hove City Council and the University of Brighton. Anyone wanting to run an event in the festival can submit their ideas on the festival website www.brightondigitalfestival.co.uk. The programme of events will be announced later in July.
