Helping to put Worthing on the business map

The Business Women Excellence Awards took place in Brighton in late November honouring organisations and individuals from across Sussex with five business owners from Worthing taking centre stage.

The categories of the BWEAs that are run by Carrot Events range from ‘women in uniform’ through to ‘the wellness award’ and over 300 people attended the ceremony at The Grand Hotel, Brighton, in black tie dress.

Co-Director of Shake It Up Creative Meg Fenn was recognised as Runner Up Digital Woman of the Year. A proud moment for her and her Co-Director Rachael Dines. But as well as being a published author and having recently been featured in .Net Magazine, Meg sits on the Board of WorthingDigital, a common interest group that seeks to promote and support digital work and interests.  She has established a popular lunchtime speakers’ event at flexible office space location Freedom Works in Worthing that hosts speakers from Sussex and beyond, raising the interest of digital in the town and helping to put Worthing on the business map.

Other local winners included hypnotherapist Honey Lansdowne who was Runner Up for The Wellness Award and Janice Moth who was Runner Up for the Community Spirits Award having established The Glamour Club, an innovative social event for the local older generation. Marketer Pauline Baker won Digital Woman of the Year, Fliss Field, owner of UKh2o, a specialist water treatment company, was recognised twice; highly commended as the Most Enterprising Business of The Year and crowned winner of The Amy Johnson Woman in Engineering Award.

All these business women do a lot to foster collaboration and good business in Worthing. Meg is at the forefront of Worthing Community Innovation initiative, a group of local businesses, charities and residents who care deeply about the town now and its future and are working towards a social movement that rejects loneliness and isolation. In addition, this year, Meg has spoken at WordCamp London on the importance of collaboration in business and at the inaugural Worthing Summit on how to make your business purpose tangible.

“We really do walk the talk so it’s fantastic to be recognised at the BWEAs and help give a big shout out for businesses, particularly female founders, in Worthing.” said Meg Fenn.
