AXS: A New, Inclusive Approach to Accessibility Passports

The Challenge

Accessibility passports as they existed previously are flawed concepts. By only being available to disabled people they singled disabled people out as ‘other’. They often followed a medical model of disability ( for information on the different models of disability you can read our glossary/blog). Finally they took the form of a word document or PDF, themselves often inaccessible and this format allowed for distribution of intimate data without the individual's knowledge.

We liked the idea of an accessibility passport in principle; a tool that prevents individuals from having to repeatedly advocate for themselves and explain their needs, reducing fatigue and isolation. But we acknowledged the challenges; We wanted to create a service that reflected the users needs and that was a tool for creating an anticipatory approach to inclusion.

The Results

AXS upgrades the concept of an accessibility passport so that it is accessible to everyone, regardless of diagnosis or disability, normalising and simplifying the process of advocating for and ensuring that reasonable adjustments are met.

AXS Passport equips individuals and organisations with a digital tool for sharing and responding to accessibility and inclusion requirements. It gives you and your business the information and insight to foster true belonging and participation across your whole workplace culture.
