About the event

Immersive technology can be a powerful tool for learning, socialising and entertainment, especially in a time when physical activities aren’t always possible.

Join us as we look at the many ways Virtual Reality has stepped up during the lockdown and how other industries have adopted immersive tech to make positive change throughout the COVID-19 crisis.

We will also be taking a look at the companies working to provide some of these tools and discuss how immersive technology can best be utilised at home and within the workplace. We'll have talks from:

Mozilla Hubs

The Mozilla Hubs team will be joining us to talk about their browser-based immersive social platform, how it is currently being used globally and where they see the future of WebXR technologies.

Mutiny Media and Platform B

Next Gen XR - in response to the social isolation from COVID-19, FuseBox resident George Butler of Mutiny Media and Nats Spada, co-founder of youth-led radio station Platform B, will be joining us to discuss how they are exploring recreating Brighton's acclaimed music venue, the Green Door Store, in Mozilla Hubs.

The project aims to enable the team of young adult programme-makers to reconnect in social virtual reality platforms - creating groundbreaking live events with performance spaces, DJ sets, break out rooms and more. As VR is still an emerging platform, it will allow young creatives to gain practical experience in developing new skills as well as sustaining, strengthening and building upon Platform B’s mutual support network.

This meetup will be hosted in the browser-based social platform Mozilla Hubs. Mozilla Hubs supports all major VR headsets, however, if you do not have access to a VR headset you can still join on your desktop or smartphone browser and interact and chat as a virtual avatar.
