The Strategy Club

The Strategy Club is a shiny new Brighton based get-together, aimed at anyone interested in digital strategy.

Our first event will be a bookclub style discussion forum: basically, read the book and come along ready to discuss it. The chosen book for this event is Barry O'Reilly's "Unlearn - Let Go of Past Success to Achieve Extraordinary Results".

Barry is a respected contributor to the global Product community and a well-known face on the UX and Product conference circuit. He works with business leaders and teams from global organizations that seek to 'invent the future, not fear it'. To kick things off in style, we're extremely excited to have Barry dialling in on the night to take questions and participate in the conversation.

Read more about Barry, or follow him on Twitter.

So if you're a Product, UX or Marketing person looking to up your strategic game through reading, learning and sharing with other like minded folks, come join us for a fun and informative evening!

WorthingDigital: Robot Evolution

I for one welcome our new robot overlords - Andy Budd

This talk takes you through 2,000 years of robot evolution, from the mechanical statue of Cleopatra in Alexandria, to the latest lab experiments.

During this journey we touch on issues of technology, morality and the socio-economic effects of a world dominated by robots.

As a UX design and service designer, I look at how robots will be increasingly used to deliver service experiences, and what us designers need to do in order to create the perfect human-robot interaction.

Spring Forward: Blending Art & Science

The women of Brandwatch's R&D team are delighted to be hosting this event as part of the Spring Forward series for Women's History Month.

A collection of our female Data Scientists, UX and UI Designers, Engineers and Product Managers will be leading a series of lightning talks and panels on the theme of communicating across boundaries in the co-creation of software.

There are two main lenses on communication we'll be using throughout the evening:

1) The blending of art and science isn't easy, but it's core to our business of building simple software capable of solving complex analytical problems. Strong collaboration and communication across different disciplines, sometimes with very different approaches and needs, is vital to achieving this but it can be really hard to do. We haven't always done this perfectly, and it's an area we've worked hard on over the past 2 years. We're excited to share what we've learned.

2) There's no denying that we're operating in a male dominated field, and this plays into how we're perceived and how we communicate, collaborate and get things done. We'll be sharing our experiences as women in tech, from first impressions to the impact of frequently being the only woman in the room. We're a work in progress, not a perfect example, but we're keen to share our experiences and advice for what has and hasn’t worked for us in addressing this imbalance. We'll also be making space for open forum discussion, questions and suggestions from our attendees; we're excited to hear how other people are approaching this really important issue.

And of course, there'll be plenty of time for sharing a drink and making new connections!
