UX Designer - The Unit

The Unit is hiring! We are looking to expand our dynamic and creative team to support our growing client base. You’ll be working on innovative projects, from Internet of Things prototypes to substantial digital change programmes. Our clients include household names in international finance, global energy and bespoke travel. 2018 is an exciting time for us, having recently opened a new office in central Soho; we’re growing and we want you to grow with us.

Job Description:


We’re looking for a confident and experienced UX Designer to help us continue to create awesome experiences. You’ll have a hands-on, creative approach, with an enthusiasm to work end-to-end on a range of diverse projects; leading elements of bigger projects and smaller ones in their entirety. We work from research and definition through to a brilliant crafted execution, and you’ll be able to put your weight behind the project from start to finish. In addition, you’ll have a genuine passion for design, brand and technology.

You’ll have some strong agency experience and be able to hit the ground running, working closely with clients from day one. A key part of this role is designing and running research; from stakeholder interviews and user workshops to trends and value definition. You’ll be planning, leading and facilitating workshops, enabling compelling discussion and helping to build solutions with clear thinking and rationale. You’ll also be working with our other designers to create concepts and weave that value throughout the services and products we create, ensuring the value persists. You won’t just be a “thinker”, you’ll also spend your time on the tools, producing and evolving designs.

On a typical day on our studio you will be:


  • Using design to help users achieve their goals and clients to hit their strategic business objectives
  • Taking ownership of the design quality and consistency across your projects
  • Putting pen to paper, or pixels to screen to make ideas come to life
  • Collaborating with all members of The Unit team from Service, UX, IxD and Visual Designers, to Developers and Senior Management, on a wide range of interesting digital projects
  • Working with our clients and their customers to make sure we’re solving the right problem, and designing the best solution
  • Using our dedicated usability testing lab for employing qualitative and quantitative methods to gather feedback, uncover user needs and generate design concepts that connect with customers
  • Leading communication of research findings, conceptual ideas and service strategy

Person Specification:
