Clearleft is an award winning Strategic Design Consultancy based in Brighton, UK. Over the past 12 years, we have built a worldwide reputation for driving positive change in the practice of user-centred design. Many of our team are speakers, authors and product designers in their own right. We promote discussion and raise standards in product and service design, UX, content strategy, and front-end development. Some of the ways we do this include running annual conferences, releasing open source tools, and producing products.

Job Description:

Clearleft is a collaborative team of designers and technologists who share a passion for transforming people’s lives through digital design. We’ve been practising User Experience Design since the early days and over the last ten years have worked alongside amazing clients such as Penguin, Channel 4, eBay and The Wellcome Trust.

We’re looking for an experienced senior Project Manager with at least 5 years experience working in a similar agency environment, proven experience of managing Agile projects with design teams and the skills to lead projects with external clients.

Your responsibilities
Being a delivery-focused role, the core activities for this role are:

Managing planning, delivery and handover across multiple client projects
Tracking and reporting on progress
Facilitation of project processes
Resource management
Task scheduling
Client management
Financial management including budgeting, forecasting and invoicing
Project communication management
Risk management, escalation and problem-solving
Working collaboratively with our multi-disciplinary teams

You are delivery and detail focused
Your organisational skills are your biggest strength, and you have demonstrable experience of delivering digital projects with multi-disciplinary teams with budgets over £500,000. Ideally you have formal Agile training, but more importantly you have in-depth knowledge of Agile practices and a strong track record in successfully delivering and executing Agile design projects in an agency environment. Your understanding of how to deliver projects means that you are best placed to support teams to shape a project and adapt when and as necessary. Not only can you spot where projects may be getting into difficulty, you have plenty of ideas and tools for how to improve the process.

You love design
You may not have a design background, but you have proven experience of working with design thinkers and doers and have an excellent understanding of what design projects need to flourish.

You are a fantastic client manager
You are committed to ensuring the client gets the best possible service and results from working with Clearleft. You are an expert in guiding the client, ensuring they know what is expected of them what to expect from us. You have a real interest in educating them on how we work, listening to them and their needs and ensuring they are happy with the outcome of the project.

You are intuitive
You have the ability to smell a potential issue before it becomes a bigger problem. You are detail focussed enough to understand all the potential challenges in delivery and do your best to remove these obstacles as soon as you can. You have a deep understanding of how people behave and can spot when people need support or are struggling with something. You are able to second guess clients’ needs and suggest things to them before they have even asked. Problem solving is a core part of what you do.

You are an active listener and a great communicator
You are empathetic to the team and the client. You understand that success can often rest on the quality of communication. You pride yourself on helping the team to express their ideas clearly, confidently and with a strong sense of focus and purpose that encourages trust from your clients.

You thrive on a challenge
You don’t get phased by difficult conversations or problems, rather you prefer to work out a strategy to deal with those barriers.
