Job Description:

Adur and Worthing Councils are seeking a talented Digital Developer to join their Digital and Design team in Worthing. The team are responsible for the delivery and support of digital applications and services; and are looking for an individual with appropriate skills, behaviours and competencies. You will help build up our digital support resource pool at a time of increasing focus around customer self-service and online service delivery.


You will be able to make appropriate risk-based decisions within your sphere of expertise to identify and deliver solutions in development and support activities, bringing exceptional value to the organisation.

Skills Range:

We are seeking a blend of technical capability across a spectrum of applications support and development, including Capita Revenues and Benefits, Northgate Information@Work, ProPrint (Paris), Ingres, Capita Connect, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SQL. In addition, the successful candidate will also have either existing knowledge in Revenues and Benefits services, or the capability to learn and apply complex new skills quickly.


Technology is however only part of what we do. We also have a desire to provide excellent customer service. To this end you will work within agreed service operating models, underpinned by appropriate project management (Agile and PRINCE2) and ITIL v3 service management best practices, supporting an ethos of continual service improvement.

Salary: from £28,485 - £32,486 to p.a.

Additional Information:

Education, qualifications and training
Essential - GCSE English and Maths passes
Desirable - A-Level or equivalent in IT or business information systems related subject

Specialist skills and aptitude
Essential - Experience working on projects. Awareness of current IT trends. Good understanding of IT Security Principles
Desirable - Experience of ITIL V3, Prince 2 and Agile frameworks and methodologies

Experience of
Essential - Supporting IT Services and managing applications within a business or local government context
Desirable - High level of experience in supporting technologies referenced within the Job Advert

Job knowledge
Essential - Demonstrable knowledge of the business context of the Council's’ and the systems that underpin and enable it to operate
Desirable - Specialised knowledge in one or more functions of the Council's’ operation

Attitude, motivation and personality
Essential - Results oriented logical/lateral thinker, with the capability to assimilate technical knowledge quickly and accurately
Desirable - Desire to progress within the role and organisation and willing to accept additional responsibilities and assignment as appropriate

Decision making and analytical
Essential - Able to make risk based judgements on matters
Desirable - Capable of adopting a lead role in resolving a high severity incident. skills relating to IT delivery and support

Communication and interpersonal skills
Essential - Good written and verbal communication skills, used with customer focus and emotional intelligence
Desirable - Confident developing and delivery of stand-up presentations and detailed business reports

Information Technology skills
Essential - Good level of familiarity with office productivity solutions, operating systems and IT support applications
Desirable - Familiar with Google productivity solutions
