As the national governing body for group exercise, EMD UK is the go-to organisation for participants, teachers, organisations and the media for expert advice about trends and opportunities across the sector. We are an insight driven organisation that operates the largest database of group exercise classes in the UK to connect participants with thousands of instructors offering classes in their local area. To facilitate the continued growth of the sector we provide quality training and development as well as ongoing help and advice to instructors, supporting them at every stage of their career. We also work in partnership with organisations to endorse and develop all forms and styles of group exercise, including start up support for new fitness brands and concepts trying to enter the market. We work proactively to bring all aspects of the industry together to achieve our vision of ‘a healthier nation through exercise’.

Job Description:

This exciting role is central to the EMD UK commercial strategy of increasing sales as well as raising the profile of the organisation and associated activities. Managing the sales and marketing team, the role would suit a dynamic and experienced sales and marketing specialist with knowledge of the fitness sector and a proven track record of achieving challenging sales targets.

Skills Range:

•To position EMD UK as a leading authority in the group exercise sector across instructor networks, fitness brands and operators.

• Responsible for achieving sales, revenue and commercial growth targets across the organisation.

• Responsible for maximising new membership sales and retention of existing members (organisations).

• Responsible for reviewing and developing the organisation membership model to meet the needs of the market and ensure consistent growth in revenue.

• Responsible for final sign off of all EMD UK marketing material to ensure it adheres to brand guidelines and maintains brand consistency.

• To proof read, sign off and write relevant copy for press releases, articles and blogs as required.

• Direct and oversee digital marketing activities and ensure best practice across all channels.

• Responsible for all lead generation activities to support the commercial needs of the business.

• To lead on implementation, reporting and reviewing of the strategic and operational sales & marketing plans.

• To build relationships within the sector including sponsors, suppliers and commercial partners.

• To stay abreast of progress and direction in the fitness, sporting and marketing sectors to ensure EMD UK capitalises on all opportunities.

• Working closely with the insight team, ensure learning from market insight is integrated into sales & marketing activities.

• To provide strategic marketing guidance to EMD UK founder partners.

• To be a member of the Strategic Management Team, providing expert advice and managing identified projects.

• To regularly review suppliers of PR, marketing, digital and communications services, ensuring quality and value for money.

• To manage the EMD UK events programme for brand awareness and sales.

• To oversee the ongoing development of the EMD UK websites ensuring a positive customer experience, maximum data capture and sales.

• To manage relevant staff to ensure optimum productivity, personal development and impact on sales.

Person Specification:
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject
  • Educated to at least Level 3 (A Level or equivalent)
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience of working at a management level in Sales, Marketing or Communications
  • Experience of meeting and exceeding challenging sales targets
  • Experience of developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies
  • Experience of working for a national governing body, training provider, or fitness organisation
  • Experience of managing staff and understanding how to get the best out of team members
  • Experience of project / programme and budget management
  • Experience of managing professional stakeholder and supplier relationships at a strategic level
  • Experience of working at a senior management level in a commercial / sales orientated environment
  • Understanding of Sport England’s current strategy and priorities
  • Understanding of the physical activity and fitness sectors and the key partners in each sector
  • Understanding of key marketing principles and practice
  • Excellent copywriting and proof-reading skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to meet targets, deadlines and work under pressure
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and follow procedure
  • Ability to make decisions and use initiative
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the UK and to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Competent in the use of basic IT systems, website admin & social media
  • To live a commutable distance from Horsham, West Sussex or be willing to relocate

Salary: £33-£44,000 per annum
