Job Description:

An opportunity has arisen to work within the Catalyst Programme at the Sussex Innovation Centre as Catalyst Team Project Manager. This role is pivotal to the delivery of the Catalyst Programme and is an opportunity to work in a client facing environment delivering projects for scaling businesses while supporting the Programme within the Sussex Innovation Centre.

The Sussex Innovation Centre works with start-ups, investors, innovators and academics to launch their enterprises to market or grow their existing business sustainably and profitably. You will be part of the on-site support team who offer advice, mentoring, workshops and practical tools to foster growth.

Specifically, the Catalyst Programme offers growing companies the most flexible and risk-free way to tackle their ‘to-do lists’. A team of 12 graduate and placement students employed on full-time, 12-month contracts, the Catalyst Team work with Sussex Innovation members and the wider Sussex business community to deliver valuable projects for companies in need of extra business resources across sales and marketing, social media, operations, logistics and business administration.

The role is both internally and externally facing, supporting in the management of the 12 team members, as well as the scoping and delivery of projects on behalf of our members.


Key responsibilities include:

The Team
The role includes the supporting and mentoring of the Catalyst Team through project reviews, personal development reviews and being a key point of contact for the team, as well as Programme support for the Programme Manager.

Project Delivery
In conjunction with the Programme Manager, the Project Manager is responsible for the allocation and briefing of projects to Catalyst Team Members, project oversight, quality control and delivery of projects to clients.

Client Management
The role also includes account management, sales support and engaging new businesses that may benefit from Catalyst support. Client management includes project check ins, being a point of contact for clients, managing enquiries and resolving any client queries.

Sales and Marketing
Alongside client management, sales and marketing insight to support the Catalyst Programme Manager is beneficial. The role currently entails the supporting the sales pipeline, digital and non-digital marketing, networking and oversight of Catalyst social media.

Programme Administration
The Catalyst Programme’s administration includes the monitoring of time sheets, month-end billing processing, supporting internal projects, reporting on programme updates to senior management and wider Sussex Innovation Team.

Person Specification:
The ideal candidate will have experience of delivering a variety of projects in a client facing role, confidence in working with clients and an ability to sell Sussex Innovation services. Experience of managing or mentoring other team members is highly desirable.

We are currently recruiting for the vacancy at our Falmer office (University of Sussex), however travel to our second office in Croydon (East Croydon Station) is expected, as well as any new centres to be opened in the coming years.
