Campaigns and Engagement Officer - Wilton Park

We are a not for profit Executive Agency of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Wilton Park organises over 60 events a year in the UK and overseas, bringing together leading representatives from the worlds of politics, diplomacy, academia, business, civil society, the military and the media.

We focus on issues of international security, prosperity and justice. Our meetings provide a neutral environment where conflicting views can be expressed and debated openly and calmly, allowing acceptable compromise and resolution to be achieved.

Job Description:

Purpose of Role

To devise and deliver the full range of policy and corporate communication campaigns that underpins Wilton Park’s outreach and engagement objectives. To support the development of digital outreach and communications strategies for both Wilton Park and Wiston House.

Main duties and responsibilities


  • Lead on the delivery of all communications campaigns and activities, including channel management and evaluation
  • Create, develop, monitor and report on online campaigns
  • Create and manage relevant content for marketing and communications materials
  • Drive best practice within the Communications Team
  • Horizon scanning on digital development and applications
  • Collating and delivering a digital dashboard of communication activities, analysing key metrics and sharing data with relevant stakeholders

Relationship management

  • Working with others across the organisation to deliver timely communications updates to key stakeholders, including the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Communications Directorate
  • Maintaining and developing relationships with current and potential communications partners
  • Coordinating the external digital communications of other staff members
  • Supporting internal communications initiatives
  • Liaising with the Policy Team to keep up to date on events and issues
  • Working with others to encourage and foster a culture of digital awareness, sharing latest tools and innovations


  • Organising external small events and ceremonies with a focus on logistics and PR
  • Collaborating with Project Managers, Programme Directors and other colleagues across the site to maximise the promotion of events
  • Leading and organising ‘on the ground’ communications
  • Introducing internal staff to new communications ideas, persuading them of the benefits, gaining their support and providing training where required
  • Provide expertise on the principles, metrics and application of impact measurement to inform decision making across the organisation
  • Advise senior stakeholders around the analysis and interpretation of key reports, identifying insight that will drive action
  • Advise teams about the most effective way to capture data and to ensure it is of the highest quality to use for meaningful analysis
  • Develop and implement a monitoring and evaluation framework across all Wilton Park’s projects
  • Work with colleagues to establish and review clearly defined and measurable outcomes for each project Wilton Park undertakes, ensuring systems for capturing data are in place that allow progress against the agreed outcomes to be measured
  • Ensure that colleagues are capturing the required data and consistently meeting the data quality standards through a staff training programme
  • Collate and analyse data generated by event specific M&E activities, on a regular basis, to inform internal quality assurance measures for full project delivery
  • Create and produce timely reports of management information that measures performance and impact against agreed outcomes and targets; and can support and inform future business development activity
  • Conduct portfolio analysis by identifying, classifying and analysing funding, grants and sponsorship and work with Policy Team colleagues to support the production of funding bids and proposals
  • Liaise with past and present grant trustees, sponsorship and funding bodies
  • Ensure all learning and evaluation activities anticipate the needs of the SMT, CEO and funding bodies and are relevant, accessible, and inform decision making.
  • Work with the Director of Finance to report on Wilton Park’s ODA spend and impact
  • Support the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team to produce management reports, presentations and marketing materials as required
Person Specification:


  • A desire to shape and influence the organisation’s processes and procedures and make a significant contribution to the organisation’s decision making process and strategy
  • Highly developed analytical skills, with the ability to apply creative solutions to complex problems
  • Demonstrable experience of both qualitative and quantitative impact evaluation techniques in a work environment
  • Experience working with large, bespoke databases and demonstrable evidence of being data quality focussed
  • Ability to use and create effective and efficient systems for gathering and analysing data
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to distil multiple sources of data and research into compelling insight that will drive decision making and action
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organisational skills; in order to manage and prioritise workload
  • Proven relationship management skills


  • Previous experience working in a government or civil service executive agency
