Events Marketing and Community Manager

Clearleft is an award winning Strategic Design & Innovation Consultancy based in Brighton, UK. 12 years ago we established ourselves as one of the very first UX agencies in Europe. Since then, we’ve built a worldwide reputation for helping to bring the practice of user experience design to the mainstream, through our many books, articles, talks and events, including the ever popular UX London conference. Human–centered design is, and always has been, central to the Clearleft philosophy.

Clearleft is a world renowned design and events agency based in Brighton. As well as working with a wide range of companies, we run a series of popular conferences and events for designers and developers. We are currently looking to expand our events team, and have an exciting opportunity for a talented and experienced Events Marketing and Community Manager.

UX London is our flagship conference, and is currently in its 11th year. Leading design is our newest conference and will be taking place for the fourth time this June, in New York. Both events have international appeal and attract attendees and speakers from companies like Google, Facebook, Spotify and AirBnB. On top of these premier conferences, we run a range of smaller one-day conferences, like Patterns Day, Ampersand and our Clearleft Presents workshops. Our newest addition is our Retreats series where we take a select few to wonderful locations and help them develop their careers as Design Leaders. Our events sell out, and we’re growing, so we’re looking for someone to join us and help take our events to the next level.

The Purpose of the Role
It’s a great time to be joining the Clearleft Events team - the number of events we run has nearly doubled in the last two years, and we’re looking to do even more. With so many more events, comes new attendees, burgeoning communities and lots of opportunity. We need someone to help shape and deliver our marketing, reach new audiences and stay connected to the ones we already have. Working closely with the Event Director and Clearleft Marketing Manager we’ll streamline our marketing efforts to engage new audiences and maximise potential from our events. You’ll help us grow our network, forge even stronger relationships with industry leaders and ultimately grow our audience base. You’ll own every touchpoint we have with our community being the first point of contact for our events, you’ll managing our websites, social media, event video production and on-site event communications. You’ll travel to relevant conferences and meet-ups so you can understand what our audience needs and make sure our events are trailblazing the latest and best practices.

Main responsibilities
In this role, you will:

Grow our community - use core marketing channels to build a community of people within Design and Development - you'll produce our newsletter, manage social media channels and co-ordinate all digital content (blog posts, email, video, podcasts) to grow our reach and achieve sky-high levels of engagement. You’ll ensure our websites are up-to-date and manage their content.

Own the marketing and community management of our events programme - from intimate VIP events, to meet ups, conferences and retreats, you’ll be the first point of contact for attendees, building strong relationships with the community.

You will be the first point of contact for our attendees and customers and help support them through the ticket booking process
Engaging our customers using social and other channels; writing creative blog posts to attract users to the service; making sure we are listed on all the relevant event sites and design forums, and creating interesting and relevant content.

Be focused on marketing opportunities - while you grow our reach, you'll also think tactically and creatively about how to turn event awareness into long-lasting advocacy for the agency and our company profile as a whole.

Focus on impact - test, measure and report on the impact of all marketing activity, continually evolving your approach where needed.

Actively contribute to our growth strategy - you’ll come up with (and put into action) creative ideas that will help us grow and influence our customer base.
You will be expected to travel to some of our conferences as part of the role.



We hire based on aptitude not experience; if you have some experience in any of the above areas but want to learn more about others, don’t let that put you off applying. We think this job would be perfect for someone who has had relevant experience in an Events agency and understands the world of UX - so not a recent graduate but someone who can demonstrate how they’ve already achieved some of the things we’re looking for.
