Think Learning are looking for an experienced WordPress back-end developer to work on new system-development projects.
About us: Think Learning is mainly a provider of learning management systems and e-learning, using open source platforms. We have a mix of in-house staff, all working virtually across the UK, covering account management, business analysis, learning technology, development, theming and support positions.
Why this role: We’re a growing business with a strong niche, and we're increasingly finding clients who want to extend learning management into “selling content”, or are interested in building associated online tools (like enterprise social network tools, membership websites, or career websites). So we’re now expanding our team with this developer position.
About you: This is a mid-level job and definitely development- (rather than config/theme-) focused. To give you an idea of level, it's likely that a successful person will have at least 3 years of relevant prior experience in WordPress. One of the big benefits of working with us is that this is mainly a remote/home-working job, with flexible working hours (working around daily stand-ups). Occasional on-site client meetings and team meetings will be required in London, but other than that, we're very flexible on your working location. We do recognise the need for face to face contact and teambuilding, so we're developing our team in the Sussex area.
About the job: Competitive salary depending on experience and skills. Start date: 1st December 2019 (or sooner if available). We’re ideally looking to fill a full time, permanent role, but would consider fixed-term contact and part time/flexible working too.
Essential skills - technical
- Experience of developing plugins for WordPress
- Ability to build/consume web services (REST, JSON, XML)
- Familiarity with Git repositories/code control systems
Essential skills – non-technical
- Confident and skilled at talking directly to non-technical clients/stakeholders, to understand requirements and suggest solutions
- Experience of working in Agile (Scrum-based) project environments.
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team (with WordPress front end designers/themers, graphic designers, infrastructure experts, Totara developers, and business analysts)
- Understanding of WordPress configuration management tools
- Experience of working with Moodle or Totara would be a significant advantage
- Unit testing / continuous integration (automated build/test/deploy)
