About Electric Putty

Electric Putty is a digital agency and products studio based in central Hove.

We are a friendly team of problem solving, multi-skilled digital experts who work closely together to create genuinely useful products for good causes.

Most of our clients are within the not-for-profit and charity sector and we’re passionate about helping them use digital tools to build big ideas and make a measurable impact on the world.

As well as developing websites, mobile apps and web applications we run a growing SaaS product; BrandStencil.

In September we celebrated 15 years of profitable business. Over that time we have worked with some truly inspiring clients like Alzheimer's Society, Mind, RSPB and Citizens Advice.

We are dedicated to helping train the next generation of web professionals and actively recruit junior positions. Over the past few years we’ve watched a number of talented and committed people grow into highly skilled developers; some of today’s core team joined us with little or no commercial experience.

At the heart of the company ethos is a spirit of collaboration and autonomy, giving people freedom and trusting them to deliver first class work. We believe that a healthy work life balance is key to this and offer a range of flexible working options to everyone in our team to keep them happy, motivated and energised.

Diversity

We particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups in the tech industry.  We have invested in women switching careers to come into tech and two of our three developers are women, way over the national average (18%).

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a graduate / junior back end web developer.  This is a fantastic opportunity to get a foot in the door in this exciting industry and learn from experienced and talented professionals.

We have well defined production processes and coding standards so you’ll be getting into good habits from the outset. That said, these are always evolving and we welcome everyone’s input, so if you’ve got ideas we want to hear them.

We don’t believe in giving the newbie all the boring jobs so you’ll get your hands on production code from day one. You will be working with PHP and will become familiar with the best frameworks out there like Laravel and Yii

About you

You are naturally inquisitive. You were the kid who took things apart to see how they worked. Solving problems is at the heart of everything you do and you view every obstacle as an exciting challenge just waiting for an elegant solution.

You’re looking for a career that will never get boring in an industry that is constantly evolving.

You’re not a complete beginner; you already have a solid understanding of programming fundamentals and a number of completed projects under your belt. Whilst commercial development experience or degree level education aren’t essential, either will be a bonus.

We have to see are examples of your work, so please send us links to personal projects, websites for friends / family, your GitHub account or something commercial you’ve been involved in. Please provide details on your involvement in each.

How to apply

Send your CV and a covering letter to jobs@electricputty.co.uk. Please make sure you detail your skills and experience and provide links to examples of your work.

The closing date for applications is 13/01/20. Please note, we will be interviewing as we receive applications so may appoint before this date as we would like someone in post as soon as possible. We will be in touch if we’d like to take your application further.

Salary range: Up to £25k (Based on skills / experience)
