Membership & Marketing Executive at Brighton Chamber

Brighton Chamber is looking for someone to fill this key role. We’re looking for a Membership & Marketing Executive who will help us engage with and grow our membership.

It’s an ideal job for a people person and someone who enjoys managing a busy workload. You’ll be good at building relationships and working within a team. The role involves working with our members to make the most of their membership, using social media and our website to market the Chamber and its members and taking part in events. The Chamber is the central hub for businesses in the city and our membership is growing. We run an extensive events programme designed to help businesses to meet, learn and grow.  Brighton Chamber is a not for profit business and this is an exciting time to join us because we are expanding the team and developing new services.

Role Summary

This role helps the Chamber create a compelling experience for members of the Chamber. Engaging members is our top priority and we do this by helping them to make the most of their membership and stay members. Working alongside the Head of Member Engagement, the role involves listening to what our member businesses need, helping them access the benefits of membership both online and face to face and creating great content about them and the Chamber for marketing.

Key tasks and responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

Engaging members

  • Dealing with all aspects of onboarding new members so they have a great experience and start engaging as soon as they join.
  • Taking part in the member ‘Meet-ups’ each week, sometimes deputising for Head of Member Engagement.
  • Carrying out, and reporting on, membership surveys and collecting feedback from members in other ways.
  • Getting to know members and their businesses so that we can tailor introductions and referrals and let them know about relevant events and initiatives.
  • Responding to email and phone enquiries effectively and promptly.  
  • Helping members to take advantage of all the benefits of being a Chamber member including attending events.
  • Building relationships with our ambassadors, liaising with them as they share their time and expertise to help the Chamber.
  • Engaging with members on social media.
  • Carrying out a three-month ‘check-in’ with new members to ensure that they are using their membership.
  • Managing the Chamber Slack channel, engaging with members and helping them connect with each other

Managing sponsors and partners

  • Managing relationships with our event sponsors; liaising with them about the events, co-ordinating the various benefits of sponsorship.
  • Working with the Head of Member Engagement to develop our sponsorship strategy and grow our income from sponsorship.

Marketing members

  • Helping members to use the Chamber website to promote what they do
  • Curating and editing members’ blogs for the website
  • Creating news and info about members through blog interviews and making videos etc
  • Showcasing how members are using the Chamber
  • Promoting the Activity Hub posts about member news, events, vacancies and offers on Twitter
  • Promoting the Chamber members on our social channels

 

Marketing the Chamber

  • Compiling the Chamber monthly newsletter
  • Proactively building the mailing list
  • Measuring and monitoring of marketing activities in monthly KPIs
  • Coordinating the Chamber content plan and calendar
  • Curating stories, writing copy and collecting testimonials about how the Chamber helps its members
  • Promoting the Chamber and our members across our social channels
  • Using analytics to inform our marketing activity
  • Creating marketing campaigns based on knowledge of the members and implement with the support of Head of Member Engagement
  • Managing the marketing plan and coordinate marketing activities for Brighton Base Camp and Brighton Summit
  • Building relationships with our partner organisations to help promote our events programme and the benefits of membership

Supporting the Head of Member Engagement

  • Playing an active role at events and making introductions for members
  • Researching and developing topics and ideas for networking and learning events that will benefit the members
  • Contributing to the development of the member engagement strategy, overseen by the Head of Member Engagement.
  • Attending meetings with the Head of Member Engagement with existing or prospective members of the Chamber
  • Maintaining membership information on the CRM
  • Undertaking some membership finance and admin
  • Working closely with the other team members on projects

Other

  • Keeping accurate records in line with the Chamber’s systems and procedures
  • Adhering to all the Chamber policies e.g. equalities, data protection and health & safety
  • Maintaining Chamber filing and records and carrying out general office duties as required

There may be other areas of responsibility depending on the skills of the post holder

Key skills/Person specification

Essential

  • Listening skills and at ease with building rapport with people
  • Able to write good copy and content for social media, blogs and website
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service because members are at the heart of what we do
  • Energy for working in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining attention to detail
  • Methodical and organised - to manage a varied and time-critical workload
  • A can-do positive attitude and able to problem-solve in order to find solutions to a challenge
  • Able to work well in a team and equally to use initiative and be responsible for own area of work, prioritising and meeting deadlines
  • Marketing experience and with using social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram) for business
  • Experience in using online software such as Mailchimp email software, Canva and website CMS
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent and able to understand complex issues

Desirable

  • Experience of dealing with membership or sales enquiries
