Middleweight PHP Developer

About the job

Electric Putty’s mission is to build digital tools that empower people to create a positive impact for their chosen causes. We are looking for a confident and enthusiastic PHP / Laravel developer to help us achieve this.

This role will primarily involve maintaining and evolving the software we have created for our clients, as well as working on new, green field projects.

We’re lucky to work with some amazing organisations who provide a range of services from healthcare benchmarking to legal aid provision, so the applications you’ll be working on have a tangible impact on society.

You will be working with a great team of experienced people developing new features as well as building out and maintaining existing systems. There will be the opportunity to explore ideas and experiment to find the best way to solve a problem.

We have well defined production processes and coding standards so you’ll get up to speed quickly. That said, these are always evolving and we welcome everyone’s input, so if you’ve got ideas we want to hear them.

We actively encourage professional development and part of the package includes a training budget which you can use at your discretion.

About you

  • You will have 3 or more years of experience in web based software development ideally using PHP.

  • You will be comfortable within a modern framework, e.g Laravel / Django

  • You can work independently, like making decisions and thrive on problem solving

  • You know your way around a LAMP / LEMP stack and are able to set up local development environments

  • You understand relational databases and have experience writing complex queries

  • You’re happy with version control software, preferably Git

Excellent communication skills and a pragmatic, problem-solving attitude are absolutely essential.  You will need to be happy discussing requirements and coming up with solutions which you can present to the rest of the team.

About the company

As well as developing websites and web applications we run a growing SaaS product; BrandStencil.

At the heart of the company ethos is a spirit of collaboration and autonomy, giving people freedom and trusting them to deliver first class work. We believe that a healthy work life balance is key to this and offer a range of flexible working options to keep everyone happy, motivated and energised.
