BrightLocal is a SaaS platform that helps digital marketing agencies and brands with local online marketing.
We have over 5,000 customers and work with big brands such as Co-op, Fitness First and IKEA. These companies depend on Brightlocal to help them improve their local online performance to deliver greater traffic and new customers.
Launched in 2009, we have an established and respected brand in the industry and are known for our authoritative research and webinars as much as our specialist search-reporting platform. Our industry-leading research is regularly picked up by mainstream media like the Guardian, Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal.
We employ 170 people across 4 countries: UK, USA, Ukraine and the Philippines. Brighton is our HQ, and our global management and operational hub.
We are a people-focused business and fully committed to giving every team member the most positive work experience possible. We do this by providing an abundance of opportunities to learn new skills, building fantastic working relationships, and supporting team members in realising their life goals, all within a culture that cherishes individuality and champions teamwork and collaboration.
We also like to have fun, with regular team-building activities, including things like escape rooms, cocktail making, sailing, scavenger hunts, and plenty of team meals and social nights out.

About the Role
BrightLocal's educational, informative and newsworthy content sits at the heart of our brand and we're looking for an exceptionally talented, experienced and organised writer and communicator who can help us take it to the next level.
As BrightLocal's Content Manager, you'll work hard to become a subject matter expert, and use your expertise and writing skills to devise and develop outstanding, industry-leading articles on the topic of local SEO. These content pieces will range from quick-turnaround news reporting to long-form, in-depth guides, but they will all have the common aim of helping our audience of tactical marketers to do their jobs better.
Reporting into the Head of Content, you'll take on a critical role within our small but growing Content Team. Collaboration is key, so you'll be briefing designers on assets that bring your pieces to life and helping to inform the direction of our content strategy, while also taking on guidance and suggestions from our in-house SEO specialists and customer-facing teams.
You'll also be able to speak directly to our newsletter subscriber base of 40k+ by managing our email output and writing compelling copy to engage our audience, though no email management experience is necessary - we can show you the ropes!
Our strong spirit of collaboration within the team means that you'll also have opportunities to work on and develop a variety of marketing projects, such as commissioning and managing guest posts from expert contributors, proofreading copy within the BrightLocal tool, and helping to run webinars and virtual events.
What you'll bring to the role:
You'll have truly exceptional written and communication skills, and be able to demonstrate these fully at every opportunity
You'll have a significant portfolio of highly-polished, professional, published content
You'll have an incredibly keen eye for detail throughout all proofread content, identifying and resolving typos, clichés and complex sentence structure
You'll be a highly adaptable writer, capable of writing content for different purposes, whether it's long-form guides, or short and snappy email copy
You'll have the confidence to bring creativity and personality to all work you author, but be able to adopt and maintain the BrightLocal tone of voice when required
You'll be a fast learner, and be able to confidently write about local SEO quickly
You'll go to extra lengths to research and understand the audience you're writing for
You'll be well-organised, and able to manage your time to prioritise urgent content when required
You'll have a working knowledge of SEO, and know how to implement guidelines into your work
You'll be a self-starter, capable of working autonomously and generating your own ideas, but also working to briefs when required
You'll be a cheerleader for quality writing within BrightLocal, and seek to educate team members rather than simply fixing things yourself
We offer 25 days annual holiday (plus bank holidays) and you get a day off for your birthday, too.
The office is informal and casual. We expect people to work hard but also to enjoy their time at work. We have a fully-stocked drinks fridge and our kitchen cupboards overflow with snacks, of both the healthy and (very) unhealthy kind.
We have been fortunate to be able to grow our business, and our teams, throughout the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, and have proved that we are amazingly committed when working from home. So when we reopen our Brighton office in July (see further details below) we will operate hot desks and flexible working from home for every team member. We'll be happy to explain in more detail if you have any questions.
We love to celebrate all team members’ birthdays, and enjoy cakes, drinks and cards (as long as that's what they want!), and we also make a big deal of important work anniversaries with presents and gift cards.
The music in the office is always on, and we take time out every few weeks to do fun team activities. Where we can, and when people are in the office, we try to break early on a Friday afternoon to ‘prepare for the weekend’ with snacks and drinks (beer, wine, G&Ts and soft drinks - take your pick!). This is more tricky for those working from home on a Friday but other lunches and events more than make up for this!
We encourage work-life balance by enabling our employees to work abroad for up to three weeks a year – be it France, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Bali or beyond… the world is there to be explored and we want to help you explore it.
Every team member enters into our company bonus scheme related to targets.
Health & Wellbeing Support:
We are firm believers in supporting our team members in body and mind. We provide a diverse range of health and wellbeing benefits, including Vitality Private healthcare (which includes dental cover, CBT support and free access to other complementary therapies), free flu jabs and eyecare vouchers, weekly in-office massages and a comprehensive bike-to-work scheme, which you don’t just have to use just for work!
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic our team members have been working remotely to help keep them safe and to avoid further spreading of the virus. We are planning to reopen our office in central Brighton from 1st July, 2021 (we will be hot-desking and working from home flexibly from this date).
However, we will continue to support each individual’s choice to work from home until they personally feel safe and happy to return to the office.
We feel incredibly fortunate that BrightLocal has remained stable and profitable throughout the pandemic and we remain on track to hit our revenue and growth goals for 2021. We have been able to support any struggling customers with long-term payment holidays and through additional training and support.
We have had zero redundancies and have grown many of the teams across the business to ensure that we are in a strong position to help and support our growing customer base in 2021 and beyond.
HOW TO APPLY:
It's critical that we can gauge your writing skill along with your application, so please ensure that your CV contains at least five links to published, long-form, online articles that you have authored.
Please apply via our recruitement and HR platform, Breathe HR, using this link (https://hr.breathehr.com/v/content-manager-16780) with a covering letter and CV containing the links mentioned above.
