We are looking for a PR star who thinks and writes like a journalist to step into a flexible, part-time role and hit the ground running.

Using guile, wit and the ability to sniff out a good story, media relations firm Tartle Media gets small businesses featured in the press.

We work with all sorts of companies, including fast-growth investor-backed startups and owner-managed SMEs that have been established for more than 20 years. Most operate in the B2B space and sectors span health, marketing, education, tech, software, professional services, personal finance and property.

The job:

  • Generating press coverage for our clients, working to monthly deadlines, and keeping them updated

  • Plenty of copywriting (long-form features, op eds, short comments, blogs and LinkedIn content), mostly for business titles

  • Speaking to case studies and setting up press interviews

  • Pitching to journalists by email and phone, and infrequent phone sell ins, usually for non-exclusive data-driven or investment stories

  • Some light admin

You will be:

  • Experienced, with at least three years in PR or journalism

  • An excellent writer with a nose for a story

  • Slightly obsessed with the news, as this is how we keep producing and pitching relevant, timely stories

  • Unafraid of picking up the phone to journalists

  • Curious, articulate and confident

  • Able to grasp complex subject matter quickly

  • Efficient and able to motivate yourself

  • Punctual, organised and respectful of deadlines

  • A peerless communicator, as you’ll be dealing with clients and journalists

  • A great networker (if you already have press contacts that’s a bonus but not a necessity)

How you’ll be working:

  • With the founder of Tartle (Emily) as a team, though remotely, so you’d need to be OK with the lonely existence of a home worker

  • This is a part-time role, and quite flexible, though your three days would need to be worked during core hours between Monday and Thursday

Hardware and software:

  • We work on MacBooks (provided), and mostly use Google Workspace, Slack, Dropbox, MS Office and ResponseSource.

What’s in it for you:

  • On the job training with helpful, constructive feedback

  • Flexible and remote working

  • Company pension scheme

  • Bonus scheme for new business

  • Generous holiday allowance plus your birthday off

And after successful completion of a three-month probationary period...

  • Two volunteering days per year

  • A culture of learning with access to training courses

  • Beautify your home working space allowance

  • Subscription to Calm, Headspace, Fabulous or another wellbeing app of your choice

How to apply:

No need to send a CV – a link to your LinkedIn profile will do nicely – just write a cover email that makes me spit my coffee out and demonstrates your talent for writing an arresting pitch. I’d love to hear about your interests and projects outside work (because we’re more than our jobs). And finally, please attach or include a link to something relevant you’ve written. Send all this to emily@tartlemedia.co.uk.

Timings:

Please note that interviews will be held during the month of July. First-round interviews will be via phone or video, second-round interviews will be held in person in Brighton (outdoors).

Tartle Media strives to create a productive environment, representative of and responsive to different cultures and groups, where everyone has an equal chance to succeed.
