Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious DevOps Engineer or Systems Administrator with automation skills looking to develop their career within a highly successful, growing tech company.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Ubuntu Linux and have a solid understanding of networking concepts. They will help to maintain our production infrastructure (70+ physical servers) and expand our automation efforts. They will also bring the knowledge and ideas to enable us to improve and extend our infrastructure to better support our growing customer base moving forward.

This is a remote role but will require some occasional travel to our office in Brighton and the data centre in Maidenhead to diagnose/troubleshoot issues where this can’t be done remotely. We’re therefore only considering UK based candidates for this role.

What we’re looking for...

  • Extensive commercial experience with Ubuntu Linux system administration

  • Extensive experience of working with system automation tools including Ansible

  • Experience of pfSense and iptables (and/or other firewall solutions)

  • Knowledge of version control systems, in particular Git/GitHub

  • A solid understanding of networking concepts, network technologies & services such as DNS, HTTP, SSL, TCP/IP

  • Experience with high load/high-performance production systems, their maintenance, and optimisation

  • Administration of databases systems, especially MySQL

  • Scripting languages such as Python, PHP or Shell

  • Knowledge of web services, API, and IP based protocols

  • Knowledge of computer hardware and networking systems

  • Deployment tools (Jenkins etc.)

  • Strong knowledge of creating configuration, build, and test scripts for CI environments

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues

  • Monitoring systems such as Grafana, Zabbix

  • Experience with Docker

Also of interest...

  • Experience with Container Orchestration Engines such as Kubernetes or Nomad

  • Experience with maintaining Elasticsearch

What you’ll be doing...

  • Administration of Ubuntu Linux servers and pfSense firewalls

  • Extending our automation by writing Ansible roles and playbooks

  • Management of network switch configurations

  • Help to define server specifications

  • Server builds and hardware swaps where necessary

  • Maintenance and monitoring of our network

  • Planning and implementing improvements to extend automation, improve redundancy, segment our network and increase capacity

  • Troubleshooting server and network issues as they arise

  • Occasional travel to data centre will be required

  • Occasional out of hours work will be required
