Lead Designer

Good design cuts through everything we do at BrightLocal, starting with our core brand and weaving its way through every touchpoint, from our products to our website and beyond.

We've made big leaps in brand recently, and we're now looking for a creative and versatile designer to own the direction and delivery of design across our business.

As our Lead Designer, you’ll champion great design within the business at every available opportunity. You’ll define, and continually improve, our design processes, embed a culture of "design thinking" across the company, and ensure that our design output is always of the highest quality.

You’ll be hands-on, too, delivering incredible design work across our product, website and brand. But you won’t be going at it alone… you’ll be managing two extremely talented designers and helping them to deliver amazing work, developing their skills, and supporting their career growth as a coach and mentor.

You’ll draw from your experience of designing digital products, and use your strong understanding of UX, UI, and interaction design to deliver product experiences that delight, inspire and have real impact for our users. You’ll have the full support of an array of talented product managers, UX designers, content designers and product developers to inform your designs and help bring them to life.

Our products are already used and loved by 15,000+ customers today, but we have ambitious plans to take our offering forward and further cement our position as a market leader in local SEO. You'll play a major part in helping us get there, so we'll be giving you all the support and freedom you need to explore new directions within product design.

This is a great opportunity for an ambitious designer looking to have a sizeable impact in a business that truly values design and sees the great value it delivers as key to growth.

This is a hybrid working role. Most of our team are currently working two days in the office and three days from home. However, we are flexible based on each individual's choice.

Your skills and experience:

  • A proven track record of delivering exceptional design work across different disciplines and formats
  • Experience designing digital products - ideally within a SaaS company
  • Experience managing and improving design processes
  • Experience managing and mentoring designers
  • Experience developing and maintaining brand and visual identities and design systems
  • Strong UI and interaction design skills
  • Knowledge of wireframing and prototyping software - preferably Figma
  • Knowledge of modern web conventions, such as HTML and CSS

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Highly versatile, ambitious and proactive
  • A meticulous eye for detail
  • A natural problem solver who relishes new challenges
  • Not afraid to question how things are done, and to suggest ways to do things better
  • Comfortable asking for, and giving, feedback
  • A great motivator and coach who knows how to get the best out of a team
  • Able to produce high-quality work quickly, without compromising on standards
