Active Sussex has a small but inspiring team that need a new recruit to take on the challenges and rewards of helping the Trust work towards reducing inequalities through access to physical activity opportunities.

We are looking for a talented and motivated Marketing & Communications Officer to join our team.

This role is responsible for the day–to-day management of Active Sussex’s digital and print communications, to ensure consistent, inclusive and equitable messaging and branding across all channels.

You will be the strategic lead for all aspects of internal & external communication, promotion and PR through the development and implementation of a marketing and communications plan.

Supporting the Trust’s strategic stakeholder engagement, you will play a key role in influencing and supporting partners to communicate effectively with key inactive audiences. You’ll help advocate for policy development and system change to facilitate more people living active lives.

What you’ll do

  • Responsible for all aspects of strategic internal & external communication, promotion and PR to ensure inclusive, accessible and consistent marketing and communications.
  • Develop and implement a marketing and communications plan to support the Trust’s Strategy.
  • Design, manage and be the first point of contact for all Active Sussex communications for web, print, social media and PR, including brand management.
  • Raise the B2B and B2C profile of the organisation’s core objectives and increase corporate reach as appropriate, and in line with Active Sussex projects and initiatives.
  • Work closely with colleagues to increase knowledge and understanding of our key inactive audiences and ensure that Active Sussex continues to engage with new and existing stakeholders who work in target communities.
  • To research and produce case studies, features and PR stories to put a positive light on Active Sussex’s and partners’ work.
  • Amplify key national messages and campaigns at a local level through curated content, as well as nurturing and growing local influencer networks.
  • Deliver key duties and objectives to timescales and within delegated budgets.

Who you are

  • You are a team player who is comfortable working with senior staff and as part of a team.
  • You have planning and organisational skills with an excellent multitasking ability and great attention to detail.
  • You have clear, concise and effective oral and written communication skills, with proven track record of writing publications, communications, PR and media relations experience
  • You have experience of using and maintaining websites and social media platforms , with the ability to successfully develop and deliver targeted promotional and communication campaigns aimed at driving up participation, ideally from the physical activity sector
  • You have a proven track record of working with a number of different external agencies and partners (media or otherwise).
  • You have the ability to communicate effectively with people on all levels and from a variety of organisations, and in a manner which influences positive behaviours/actions
  • You have experiencing managing the production of videos and photography.
  • You have experience of managing budgets, and ensuring the effective utilisation and development of resources in the area of work.
  • You have a workable understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion relating to PR & Communications.
