Job Description:

This internship opportunity will provide support and training to enable the right candidate to get experience of all the processes involved in a charity comms and marketing department. We have a busy year ahead and this position will sit at the heart of what we do, providing support for our work to raise awareness and change public attitudes towards numeracy. You will help the Communications Team to deliver projects, campaigns and media work. You will be involved in our major annual campaign – National Numeracy Day – as well as helping the charity to show impact by gathering and sharing case studies, drafting news stories and taking charge of administration tasks.

This will involve organising marketing assets, updating our communications calendar, editing websites, gathering case studies, monitoring media coverage. You will help us to brainstorm content for social media, blog posts and news stories and get hands on with editing our website, working to National Numeracy guidelines. This is a fast-paced environment which provides an opportunity to develop and widen experience across a range of projects, from drafting and publishing web features through to working with ambassadors.

• Maintain the comms calendar, marketing assets, image files and media contact list.
• Work with the team to look after the National Numeracy websites, including page edits and helping us to implement our SEO strategy.
• Help us to produce comms materials and resources for our funding partners, including copywriting, drafting toolkits, liaising with artworkers.
• Work on our biggest annual campaign – National Numeracy Day.
• Monitor news alerts to identify the latest news about maths and numeracy.
• Conduct interviews and questionnaires with National Numeracy learners to gather case studies.
• Arrange content production for NN website, blog, news pages etc; and also for sharing with partner organisations.


Skills Range:

Essential Skills/Experience:

• Excellent written skills
• Excellent verbal interpersonal communication skills.
• Experience of Microsoft Office 365 suite of tools.
• Good organisational, interpersonal, multi-tasking, and prioritisation skills.
• Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

Desired Skills/Experience:

• Educated to degree level.
• Experience of copywriting e.g. articles for websites, information leaflets, news articles or email content.

Person Specification:

You will be:

• Interested in PR and campaigns.
• Self-motivated, pro-active and flexible.
• Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Numerate and recognise the importance of numeracy

Additional Information:

This Internship will run from late March to late September 2019. Depending on funding, there is potential for this role to convert to a permanent position at the end of September for the right candidate.
