Digital Communications Officer - Wilton Park

We are a not for profit Executive Agency of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Wilton Park organises over 60 events a year in the UK and overseas, bringing together leading representatives from the worlds of politics, diplomacy, academia, business, civil society, the military and the media.

We focus on issues of international security, prosperity and justice. Our meetings provide a neutral environment where conflicting views can be expressed and debated openly and calmly, allowing acceptable compromise and resolution to be achieved.

Job Description:

Purpose of Role

To create engaging and relevant digital content for all Wilton Park events.

Main duties and responsibilities

Social media

  • Run social media channels on a day to day basis, responding to queries as necessary
  • Develop and optimise digital and social media outputs, including text, images, video and audio to reach wide-ranging target audiences, including as part of larger campaigns which require coordination with other teams in the organisation
  • Increase the organisation’s visibility among potential clients
  • Protect and enhance the organisation’s public reputation when writing content on its behalf
  • Spot trends and advise on best social media content and new technologies


  • Review online content, making sure it meets users’ needs, is up to date, and is search engine optimised
  • Catalogue new images and copy
  • Create relationships with external websites like bloggers to increase site traffic
  • Engage current and potential clients via email
  • Listen to the feedback and needs of internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide quality control support e.g. proof-reading, editing and making sure all content is on brand


  • Manage technical aspects of the website
  • Use analytic tools to report on social media and web performance
Person Specification:


  • Experience in a digital communications role, to include monitoring social media and reporting on impact
  • Ability to write and edit highly engaging copy for different audiences across online communications
  • Understanding of effective digital communications and a willingness to keep up to date with technologies and developments
  • Experience of website and management
  • Experience of maintaining and protecting an organisation’s brand in a variety of formats
  • Ability to work proactively using initiative, to prioritise work and meet deadlines with well-developed time management skills
  • Experience of project management, including delivering to timescales and budget
  • Excellent IT skills, including email marketing systems, social media tools, HTML and web analytics
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and with skills in being clear and concise
  • Ability to work as part of a team and with other stakeholders in a collaborative way and using a partnerships approach

Previous experience working in a government or civil service executive agency
