Madison Web Solutions are a digital agency based in Brighton and Peacehaven, East Sussex. We are expanding rapidly and we are on the lookout for a front-end developer to join the team.

We work for a hugely diverse range clients, ranging from local florists and builders all the way up to high street banks and global retailers. We have a broad portfolio including brochure websites, eCommerce solutions, CRMs, directory websites, web apps and more.

We are a small, friendly team and as we continue to grow, the right candidate will have significant opportunity to shape their role within the company.

We are keen for our team members to develop specialisations and will support our colleagues to continually improve their skills.

Job Description:

You will be focused on developing slick, highly polished, responsive websites for a wide range of clients, which are both beautiful, and easy to use.

In particular, your main responsibility will be taking static designs and turning them into responsive and standards compliant HTML/CSS templates for integration with a dynamic CMS.

We're a relatively small team of 14, so you will be frequently challenged to learn new skills and adapt.  You will be expected to keep up to date with important trends in website design, UX & SEO and build this knowledge into your sites.

 
Skills Range:

Essential:

  • Excellent knowledge of HTML and CSS -  using the most modern features, and also how to cope gracefully with legacy browsers.
  • Excellent understanding of responsive web design - the sites you build must be easy to use and look beautiful and crisp on any device.
  • Excellent understanding of how to use HTML templates in conjunction with CSS preprocessors (Less/Sass) to build modular and scalable front ends.
  • Decent grasp of client side scripting (especially jQuery)
  • Decent grasp of version control with Git.
  • Experience with Twig templating engine.
  • An appreciation of accessibility and SEO considerations.

Helpful but not essential:

  • Experience with Wordpress CMS.
  • Experience automating build tasks with Gulp.
  • Basic knowledge of PHP and the LAMP stack
  • Experience working with Wordpress plugins: WooCommerce, Advanced Custom Fields, Timber.
  • Experience with Laravel's Blade templating engine.

Additional Information:

Peacehaven is only a short drive from Brighton and there is ample free parking available. Alternatively, there are direct buses dropping off (literally) on our doorstep from Brighton and Eastbourne.

We are currently looking at new offices in Brighton so there will be a choice of either location as well as the option to work from home in some cases.
